Another War

"Loki is dead," Thor told us. He'd called through someone's communicator in space. I'd been excited to hear from him at first, but now I didn't want to. The news made me want to vomit. Loki was gone.

Tony and I found ourselves up in our room later, laying together for comfort. It hurt to think about Loki, but I didn't want to stop thinking about him. I loved him. Luke found Tony and I about an hour after we'd gone up there. He came to lay in between us, wanting to soothe both of us. It helped, but not much. We'd just have to get through this together.

They all left without me knowing. Tony and Luke suggested I take a few hours just to be with Alex and Sierra, and I did. The two kids had both just turned five and ten.

When I'd gone to find everyone else, Harley told me they'd gone to fight. He said he'd tried to go, but Peter had plastered his hand to the wall with webs, kissed him, and then left. Now, we just had to wait to see what would happen.

Harley and I sat with the kids and turned on a movie for them. Halfway through the movie, Alex got up, walking over to me.

"Mommy, I don't feel good," he said. I pressed the back of my hand to his forehead. He didn't have a fever. "My body hurts," he explained, tears coming to his eyes. I pulled him into my lap.

"Friday, can you do a scan on Alex and Sierra." Sierra for good measure.

"There is nothing I can find that is wrong with either of them." Suddenly, Alex's skin started to look ashen and grey and it started to flake away, as if it was crumbling. I wanted to do something, but I felt so utterly helpless and useless. What could I have done? And then, he was gone.

"Percy," Harley whispered. I followed his eyes to outside, where tons of people were doing the same thing. They were all disappearing.

Sierra came over to us and sat in between us, burying her face in my side. I moved a little closer, being near Harley. He held tightly to my hand, fear written across his features. I pressed a light kiss to his forehead.

"I'm here," I murmured, not wanting to tell him it was okay. "I'm right here." With Sierra and Harley close, I tried to stay calm.

I just hoped the others were okay.
