Thoughts - Italics

*6 years later, Y/N's POV, Past*

I was now 10 years old. I really hoped that the family's behaviour towards me will change to better, but to no avail.

Again I was bloody mess on the kitchen floor, with a rib or 2 broken, same with my right elbow. Luckily during those years I learnt first aid somehow. Fixing the elbow shouldn't be a problem.

I had some 'recovery' time as I tried to stand up, it was hard and with my blood couched from inside of me only to make things worse.

The only thing I hoped for was them not forcing me to a bloody pulp... again. Suddenly I heard a creak behind me. I turned to see Ruby with what seemed like mixed emotions. Deffinetly I saw anger, but also confusion and... sadness??? Wait, does she feel pity towards me? I don't care anyway. I would 2 years ago but now it's too late.

She then stepped closer to me my heart skipping a beat for I knew what will happen. But she just passed me, not doing anything to me, no pushes, no punches nothing, and went to kitchen. OK, this is weird... that never happened before. I swear to myself that she was there kicking me to guts over and over again this morning.

I shrugged it off and decided to head upstairs. Once I was there I saw a note on my 'bed'. I grabbed it and started to read.

Y/N
You may not know me, but I certainly know you and your family. I can't stand their behaviour towards you anymore so I decided to help you escape. Under your mattress is hidden a small box. There you should find everything you need. The rest is up to you. I hope we will see each other one day.

With the best of luck
Secret helper.

As I was reading the lines I couldn't believe what I read. A chance to finally escape? No it has to be a trap. But still... The though of freedom...

I looked under the mattress to really see a box. I opened it and found a key, 2 sandwiches and 500 Lien inside. For the rest of the day I was fixing my elbow. With the key I can unlock the main door which are always locked during night so I couldn't escape. I made a note for my family leaving it next to the mattress.

*Timeskip night*

It was midnight and I wasn't sleeping waiting for everyone to fall asleep and to put my escape to action.
I stood up and left my room, then approached the stairs and even with everyone asleep I was feeling like I'm about to be pushed. That didn't happen so I decided to continue. I reached the door and unlocked them suddenly feeling the cold breeze flowing through my hair once I opened them. Then I heard the doors creaking making my heart skip a beat as I was afraid someone heard that. I waited for a moment and when noone came I opened the doors more only to make enough space for me. And after a while I was running away feeling something I've never felt before. Freedom.

*Meanwhile Ruby's POV*

I was lying in my bed. I couldn't sleep as I thought about what I did to him during those years... to my brother. I felt horrible as always since I turned 7.

Then I heard a creak coming from downstairs ignoring it knowing who it was. After that I left my room and came downstairs only to see the doors opened.

I closed them and went back to my room lying on the bed again thinking about one thing. I hope you'll survive out there or find someone who will take good care of you... brother. And with that I drifted off to sleep.

A/N: Sorry for not making more abusive scenes but don't worry. There will be a lot of flashbacks in the future chapters.
