Every Rose has its thorn. Or two. Or three. But Rosalia Jasmin Brown has far too many.

I woke up again to find out it was 6am, I'd been in and out of sleep as usual. The bittersweet taste of alcohol was still in my mouth and I looked around my dark room. I sat up and winced at the daylight peaking through my grey curtains. My room smelled of faint weed and second hand smoke, a smell that my nose was pretty much used to by now.

I looked over at a small cot near my door in the corner of my room and saw my baby brother still sound asleep. At least his Monday morning was going well. I took a deep breath through the nose and sighed loudly, kicking the duvet off my body and rolling out of bed. I stretched and felt my head, i had a temperature but no bad hangover. School was 20 minutes away and I had to shower, brush my teeth and hair, get dressed and try to eat something before half past 7.

I grabbed myself an outfit consisting of a small black shirt and grey sweatpants, black socks to match. I carried in my outfit to the bathroom and rubbed my eyes, starting the shower. I hummed to myself quietly as I waited for the shower to heat up. Once it was at a perfect temperature, I quickly pulled the clothes off my body, not wanting to even look at myself in the mirror. I didn't take long, I just washed my hair and my body quickly, stepping out after about 10-15 minutes.

I pulled on my outfit and let my hair dry naturally, curly as it was. I brushed my teeth, washing out the taste in my bouth and made my way down the stairs to find my mother in the kichen. "Rosalia!" She called in her thick mexican accent. "Yes mama?" I replied, walking towards her.

"what did I tell you, ah? No more parties. Do you listen? no tu no!" She scolded me, shaking her head and putting an apple infront of me. "Lo siento, mamá" I whispered, kissing her on the cheek and grabbing a jacket.  She rolled her eyes and handed me a bottle of water. She smiled and shook her head. "I don't know, you girls get yourselves into trouble. I don't want you turning out like Elise" She told me, handing me my school bag.

I looked at her, almost glaring. "Don't worry mamá, I'm not like her, I promise." I reassured her. Her thin lips kissed my tanned forehead and walked me to the door. "Have a good day" She said before I slipped on my shoes and walked out into the cold. I walked down my street, the same way I did every week. As I walked, I remembered the lessons I had and cringed when I thought of my first period class.

I got to the school gate and ducked my head, flipped my hair out of my face as I walked. I past a few girls, their eyes lingering on me for a bit too long. I got to my locker and opened it, taking out my science book. I heard another locker open next to me and the only thought that ran through my head was 'Don't talk to me'.

"So, Rosalia-" He began, me groaning and rolling my eyes. "Some party last nigh, huh." He continued. I shut my locker and looked him up at down. "Monty, oh my god are you wearing the same flannel shirt you have been wearing since eighth grade?!" I asked him, A small smile on my face. He let out a small chuckle and locked my eyes. "Are you wearing the same bra from last night? I like that one" He replied, raising his eyebrows and smirking at me.

I glared at him and scruntched my nose. I had no words for him, we were just staring at eachother. "See you in first, Rosie" He said, shutting his locker and walking off to meet his friends. I rolled my eyes and shook my head, walking down the hall towards a familiar face.

"Hey bitch!" I called, my best friend Miya turning around to look at me. She excitedly jogged over to me, hugging me and squeezing me tight. "Girl, I think I'm still drunk from last night!" She greeted. I laughed and we pulled away "You did get pretty fucked up" I told her. "But so did everyone else" I added. We walked slowly down the corridor to her locker, talking nonsense as usual.

"So, I'm guessing Mister Fuckface said hello this morning" Miya said, sighing out of annoyance. I hummed in response "aduh" I scoffed, rolling my eyes again. "He's mad" She stated, opening her locker. "Big mad" I agreed. She handed me a lollipop from her bag and popped her own into her mouth. Monty, aka Mr Fuckface, and I had history. People knew but it wasn't anything major. "I'm completely annoyed by it now, it's fucking creepy. He's always trying to flirt with me and- speak of the devil" I was cut off mid sentence.

Miya shut her locker and smiled as a boy walked right up to her, kissing her and eating off half her face. "Guys, we're in school, calm down" I said, disgusted. Te boy pulled away and smirked at me. "I remember a time where we'd say the same thing to you, Rose" He replied, snickering and earning a glare from Montgomery. I glared at him too, leaning on the lockers "Shut up, Scott" I whispered, annoyed. "You could cut the tension between you two with a knife" Scott commented, looking between me and Monty. "Yeah, sexual tension!" A light brown haired boy joked, laughing at himself.

I rolled my eyes and quickly shut them as the bell rang for first period. I held onto my bag strap and smiled at Miya before walking off. I got to my class and sat down in my usual seat, leaning back and chewing on my pen. I was sat at the back, where nobody could really see me because the guy infront was a lot bigger than me. My 5'4 self didn't take up much room anywhere and most people never noticed me there.

Montgomery De La Cruz on the other hand, made his presence known wherever he was. Just like he did when he entered the classroom this morning. He slumped down in his seat next to me, knocking his bag into me on purpose. "Watch it De La Cruz!" I snapped, staring at him. He smirked, leaning back in his chair and facing the front of the class.
