Gran originally lived in America, but when she was 20 she came here for travelling and fell in love with, well my Grandfather. She couldn’t bare to leave him, so she didn’t they got married and had my mom. Gran’s french wasn’t all that good, so when I went to go see her she taught me English, and now I’m pretty fluent in speaking it. I was heading there, I knew that if anyone was going to stick with me, and my decisions, it was Gran.
When I got to her house I checked to see if the door was unlocked, and it was so I just walked in, I always do.
“Grand-mère? Vous ici?” I asked (Grandma? You here?). What am I thinking, of course she’s here.
“Honey, how many times do I need to tell you? Speak English.” Gran told me as she came over to the front door a smile on her face, till she saw my outfit.
“What in god’s name are you wearing?” She asked.
“Trust me I didn’t choose it.” I replied in an annoyed tone. Gran sighed and gave me a new dress which beige top with lace/knitted floral design, and brownish skirt(http://www.ricketyrack.com/images/18(213).jpg), and sandals to go with it(http://www.dellamoda.com/images/P/sergio-rossi-shoes-for-w-43196-0p.jpg). I got changed in the bathroom and came back to the kitchen, where Gran was making my favourite pie ever, pumpkin pie, yum!!!
“So, what happened sweetheart?” Gran asked, I wanted to just avoid that and reply with ‘just wanting to see you isn’t enough’ but I knew I wouldn’t get away with that, so I decided to just get it over with.
“Mom, was going to make me go out with one of the slimiest, nastiest, rudest, guy’s in France. So I tried to negotiate with her, and get her to let me dance, then there was a huge fight over that, like always, then I snapped and told her she couldn’t tell me what I can and can’t do, and she slapped me across the face, I knew I couldn’t retaliate, so I just ran, and came here.” I told my Grandmother, who was listening and thinking and letting everything process. I waited patiently for her answer, and what she said shocked me.
“That bitch!” Gran exclaimed. My eye’s widened, never have I ever heard my Grandmother swear. So hearing that was a major shock.
“Woah. Gran, you okay?” I asked, I was actually really worried about her after hearing that.
“Yes, I’m fine. I’m just so sick of your mother not allowing you to pursue this dream. You are an amazing dancer, and this rule of Dance is forbidden, is just plain stupid.” Gran let out a frustrated sigh then smiled, “I know something that will cheer you up.” And with that she got up and left the kitchen. I watched after her in confusion till she came back, I raised an eyebrow at her.
“So, what is suppose to cheer me up?” I asked in a confused tone, she smiled at me.
“Well, I was going to wait till your birthday, but I think you could use this now.” She said. then she laid down on the counter in front of me, $200 in american cash, key’s, and a plane ticket. I looked at the plane ticket to see where it was for and instantly became ecstatic.
“Las Vegas, Nevada?!” I exclaimed. I can not believe this.
“Yep, there was this dance crew there, they won a three year booking on that t.v. show The Vortex. I figured if they could make it there for dancing, then so could you.” Gran told me. I squealed like a school girl. I have always wanted to go to America, but I never could, my parents would never let me go.
“How am I going to go when my parents won’t let me?” I asked sadly. Gran smiled.
“We aren’t going to tell them, You are going to go tonight, and I’m going to tell your mom that you are at my house.” Gran told me. At first all I could think was ‘what the hell is going through this woman's head?’ But then again, I really want to get out of this hell hole, so I nodded.
“First we have to go do some shopping.” Gran said, and from there we went out bought a whole new wardrobe, then we went to the bank and got all my money changed from Euro’s to American dollar’s. Then she took me to the Airport, I said my goodbyes and got on the plane.
