Peter pulled Wade out of Harry's room, into the hallway, and shut the door behind them. "How can Harry have the Green Goblin DNA?" Peter whispered harshly, only inches from Wade's face.
Wade put his hand on the door, level with Peter's head. "I don't know. Maybe the explosion caused it."
Peter shook his head, rubbing his chin. "No, it couldn't be. The explosion would have killed him too. It probably has to be something in his blood, like us."
Wade raised his eyebrows. "Harry isn't a mu-" A doctor walked by, barely giving the two a glance as he scanned over a Clipboard.
"Harry isn't a mutant," Wade continued, his voice lower as he leaned closer to Peter. "What if Norman did something similar to what your dad did?"
Peter narrowed his eyes at him. "What? Disappeared to protect his own son? Yeah, Norman definitely did that." He folded his arms over his chest, leaning against the door frame.
"Peter, we all have issues with what Norman caused. But please, can we focus on an unbiased brainstorm for a minute?" Wade didn't mean to sound like a dick, he was just so tired of the Goblin screwing with everyone's lives.
And apparently, so was Peter.
Peter's eyes didn't unnarrow, but he nodded. "Fine."
Wade offered a weak smile. "Thank you. Anyways, what I meant was what if Norman used his own blood for the Goblin DNA, but that is what got him killed? What if the Goblin DNA was too strong for him, but-"
"-The split DNA from Harry's mother was able to balance it out." Peter finished for him. "That would explain the high level of cell poisoning we found in Norman's body after he died."
Wade nodded. "Right-"
"Mr. Wilson?" A man in front of the two asked. He was wearing a black suit, sunglasses covering his eyes.
Wade turned around slightly, his eyebrows furrowed and feeling a bit irritated with their sudden interruption. "Yeah?"
The man smiled, a split second before Peter caught the glimpse of a knife slide out of his sleeve.
"Wade!" Peter yelled, kicking the knife away from Wade's abdomen with his foot. The man growled, turning to Peter. Suddenly, about ten of the same man appeared everywhere, surrounding them both against the door.
"He's a mutant," Wade said, as the two went back to back. "Aim to the heart. They'll disintegrate if they're not real." The doctors in the halls scattered, various screams sounding down the hall.
The door to Harry's room creaked open, and the slight frame of Aunt May was barely visible. "Close the door, Aunt May!" Peter shouted, and it shut almost in an instant.
The first man to attack went to Peter, who karate kicked the man in the chest, turning him into mist in an instant. The second to Wade, with a knife. Wade blocked him with his forearm, his other fist punching the man straight into the heart. The man suddenly disappeared, leaving the other behind him visible.
All at once, the men came, swords held up and prepared. Peter and Wade fought them off, one by one. It took about ten minutes for the trio to made them all disintegrate, but when the last one came down, Peter put him into a headlock and turned him to Wade.
Wade stared down at the man, whose glasses were missing from Peter punching him in the face. "Why did you attack us?" Wade asked, sweat beading his skin.
The man laughed, looking up at Peter, then to Wade. "The boss would be pleased to see this." Peter raised his eyebrows at Wade, who slightly shrugged.
"Whose boss?" Wade asked, his voice becoming more firm and powerful.
The man laughed once more, more hysterical than last. "The one who assigned you to kill Spider-Man."
Wade's eyes went wide. "Kingpin."
The man grinned. "Yes. He would definitely be happy to know you are... wooing your prey."
Peter grimaced. " 'Wooing your prey?' Man, who says that?"
The man looked up at Peter. "The one who can see through masks.. Spider-Man."
Peter shared a look with Wade, just as the man continued. "Oh yes, it's not hard to recognize the men you are assigned to find."
Wade's eyes narrowed. "Task Master."
Task Master smiled. "Yes, Deadpool."
Wade grabbed him by the throat. "Whose powers do you have now?"
Task Master looked down at Wade's hands. "I can't...tell you if you're trying to..choke me now..is that right?"
Wade exhaled, releasing Task Master's throat. "Thank you. Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go collect my reward." Suddenly in the blink of an eye, Task Master lifted his foot and kicked Peter's knee inwards.
There was an audible snap, and Peter cried out in pain, releasing the man as he crumpled to the floor, clutching his injured limb close to his body.
Task Master quickly jumped to his feet, headbutting a stunned Wade in a blur before making an escape, giving one good leap forwards and diving through one window lining the left side of the hall.
"Dammit," Wade swore, shaking his head to clear the fuzziness. He should have seen that coming.
He knelt down to Peter, slowly peeling his hands away from his knee. "Peter, I need to see how bad it is."
Peter nodded, biting down on his lip and putting his forehead on the floor.
Wade examined the limb, grimacing when he could easily see the bone shattered under his skin. "Pete, I need to set this. Okay?" Peter nodded, lifting his head up and forcing a smile. "This isn't nothing, right Doctor Wilson?"
Wade shook his head. "Yeah, but it's going to hurt like hell." Wade undid the belt he was wearing, handing it to Peter. "Bite down on this."
Peter nodded, putting the leather into his mouth.
With a quick twist of his hand, Wade moved his leg into the right position, and Peter couldn't help but to bite down on the belt, muffling his scream.
The door to Harry's room creaked open again, and Peter saw MJ and Aunt May in the hall. Aunt May's eyes widened, then turned cold. "You have some explaining to do, young man."
