Andrew was walking down the gravel path in the cemetery, near close to midnight. Evelyn always talked about how much she wanted to walk around here. He was doing this for her.
The loud sound of a cat meowing echoed through the graveyard. He was towards the noise. It was a little white cat meowing in pain, it's leg was trapped under a log. Andrew lifted the log and the cat rubbed itself on his leg. Andrew bent down and picked up the cat. The cat purred and Andrew smiled.
Andrew looked down at the river and saw an object. He walked down the grass path to the river. Up closer, he saw what the object was.
A dull pastel pink and white hat...
His eyes widened and placed the cat down. He got in the water and grabbed the hat. It was a bit torn up.
How long was it in there?
He got out of the water, but the cat was gone. Andrew ran up the path and towards the police station. He ran in.
"Is there something you need?" the lady behind the desk asked.
"Evelyn's... hat..." Andrew got out between breaths.
The main detective, Detective Mirrilo, investigating Evelyn's disappearance came out.
"Can you come with me, sir?" he asked.
Andrew nodded and followed the detective into his office. He took a seat and placed Evelyn's hat on the table.
"How'd you find this hat?" Detective Mirrilo asked.
"I was in the cemetery. Evelyn always wanted me to go walk in there with her, so I went. I heard a cat meowing in pain towards the river and helped. Down in the river I saw an object. I took the path to get down there and when I was closer, I realized. It was her hat," Andrew answered.
"Your positive this is her hat?"
"Look inside the hat and read the name inside."
The detective flipped the hat over. The letters were faded, but they spelt out two words.
Evelyn Rose.
The detective nodded. He examined the hat. If it was in the river the day she went missing it would have most likely been gone. It must have been recent.
The detective then drove Andrew home, and thanked him for the evidence. Andrew nodded and went into the house. His father passed out on the couch from drinking too much and he could see his mother smoking on the patio. He went to his room and found Iris asleep in his bed. He had a small smile and leaned against the bed. He closed his eyes and went to sleep.

"I can't wait to meet Emily's boyfriend!" Evelyn cheered.
The family was on their way to visit their cousin Emily. She lived on the other side of the state, so it was about a five to six hour drive.
Emily was the complete opposite of the three siblings. Emily was shy, insecure, and depressed. Though, when they saw photos with her boyfriend, she looked very happy.
They had about thirty minutes before they arrived at the house. Iris was asleep, Andrew and Evelyn were sharing earbuds so they could listen to music. They were listening to Five Nights at Freddy's fan songs, for some nostalgia.
