Tyler Oakley was 17 years old when he ran away from his parents home.
Well, actually he had been staying on his own before, but this time he was not coming back, this time he left for good.
He was just tired of his parents fighting, the insults, the fear, blaming everything on himself and his dream to get out of his personal hell finally became true. He left and found an apartement not too far away from school, a job at McDonalds (everyone has to start small, right?) and more than what he could ever have imagined.
Because there was not only all of these things, but also the small boy, who knocked on his door every single day, asking if he saw his father, and even though Tyler could never help him, the boys happy smile never failed to make him smile too.
Until one day an even smaller boy ran up and down the halls, crying and clinging to his teddy bear.
Tyler opened the door and tried to calm the little munchkin by talking to him, hugging him and offering him cookies even though he knew it would seem creepy. But the little boy, according to himself going by the name Tyde, gladly accepted and with each cookie his smile and his cute little dimpels deepened.
Sometimes at night or late in the evening, Tyler would hear muffeled screams from the apartement above him, but he tried to ignore them, assuming there was just someone having a little bit too much fun with their significant other.
And each day, the boy, who he thought was Tydes brother, knocked on his door, asked Tyler about his father, smiled, and left again.
He never said his name and never told anything about his family, but over the months, Tyler saw a beautiful little girl with long blonde hair sitting on the stairs, listening to her music with her eyes closed and seemingly enjoying it too much to have a care in the world.
When Tyler turned 18 and had finished high school, he applied to a college on the other side of the country to avoid his parents and surprisingly got in. So after not even a year, he moved again and left the house and his neighbours with the beautiful children. Tyde, the little munchkin who always had some kind of sweet in his mouth, Sage, the beautiful and myterious girl from the stairs and the boy in front of his door, who never told his name.
So when Tyler opened the door the last time before moving, he broke their tradition, because he knew he was probably never going to see the boy again but still felt like he owed him an answer to his question he had been asking for the past months.
"Why are you looking for your father?" The boy blushed deep. Like really deep, not expecting Tyler to break their unwritten rules.
"It's just that I am moving and I wondered why you always look for him."
The boy flushed even deeper.
"You're moving?", He whispered. Tyler just nodded.
"Does that mean I'll never see you again?"
He nodded again.
"Well then I can answer your question I guess." He took a deep breath, looking at the ground and for the first time today started to speak loud and clearly.
"I know where my father is. He's sleeping upstairs like every day because he always comes back late from... work, but you are the only nice person in this building except for my siblings and I like your smile. You always smile at me when you open the door. Noone else does that around here."
Then he looked up and Tyler couldn't help himself but smile and wrap the little boy in his arms. What the boy had said truly touched him and he knew he was going to miss him, even though he didn't even know his name.
He left the building the next morning and went to College, where he made lots of new friends and soon started to forget everything that had happened before.
Until his best friend Steele, who was originally from Perth, Australia, broke down the night after graduation, crying in their shared dorm room.
Steele had never talked about his family before, but neither had Tyler and he just figured it was a deal between them, to live the present and enjoy life as it was.
But that night Steele told Tyler. About his three little siblings, living with his father in Michigan, about his mothers death, about him leaving the little Tyde and everyone else behind because he couldn't handle it.
Right then Tyler remembered, at the age of 25 and the next week, Steele and him took a road trip to their old home.
They arrived late in the evening, just in time to see Tyde and Sage, both breathtaking beautiful but with horror in their eyes storming down the stairs, screaming for help. Quickly Tyler ran upstairs, following the only sound in the whole building which sounded like a body hitting the ground several times, followed by an angry voice of a man.
"MY SON IS NO FAGGOT TROYE SIVAN MELLET!" Another voice was added, whispering a few words before letting out a whimper.
"Yes he is, Dad. And now please ask yourself where he got those genes from. Your dead wife, Daddy. Remember her?"
Tyler knew that voice. it was older, it sounded hurt, in pain, but it was still that voice from the boy in front of his door.
The boy that now had a name, Troye Sivan Mellet.Five weeks after this incident, when Steele had taken control over his siblings and their father was sent to jail, when Tyler had moved into his old home and everyone could relax and try to forget that night, there was a knock on Tylers door.
And when he opened the door, there was a boy standing in front of him, taller, older and so much more attractive but equally as cute as all those years ago.
"I finally know where your father is, Troye Sivan.", Tyler said. "He's far far away and can't stop you from being yourself." And with these words, Troye took a step forward and wrapped his arms around Tyler, who had smiled at him, just as all these years ago.
It didn't take them long to fall for each other, it didn't take them much time to ask each other out, it didn't take much time to share their first kiss in front of Tyler's door. Nothing needed too long, and nothing could seperate Tyler and the boy in front of his door, Troye Sivan Mellet.
But let me tell you, to plan their wedding, took a long long time.A/N
I have no idea what I just wrote, please tell me if it's shit.
Other than that, I need to study again now and even though I would like to edit this one shot a little more and make it as perfect as I could, I don't have time for that right now because teachers are stupid and I hate them (btw, both of my parents are teachers).
Well, see you again and have a lovely day!
