The Girl Who Was Bitten
Chapter 1
I ran through the white forest; the snow crunching under my boots. The air pumped through my chest as my legs started to tire. My black hair started to get loose from my blue hat. My bright blue eyes scanned the trees looking for the wolves. They were the predators while I was the prey. They aren't normal wolves either. They are the shifters from the ancient stories. They are the ones that are the basis to your worst nightmares.
I ran down the hill and came to an abrupt stop. A giant black wolf stood between the lake and me. I took in a deep intake of breath. "Why do you want me?" I cried into the night. The stars shone brightly overhead while the moon was not visible.
"Because you are the one who is prophesized," said the giant black wolf as he edged towards me.
"What's that suppose to mean?" I asked. The wolf lunged at me but I held out my hands. The wolf bounced away from me as if he hit a wall. An angered cry came out of his bloodied muzzle. What did I just do?
"That's what I mean you stupid girl," the wolf snarled and lunged at me before I could think. I tried to hold him back but my arms were too weak. His sharp teeth bit into my shoulder sending blinding heat running through my body.
"Ah!" I screamed as the heat started to engulf me. The snow melted away from the touch of my skin leaving me on the only piece of greenery in the forest.
"Sleep well my little princess," said the black wolf as he disappeared into the night. The last thing I saw was his brown eyes watching me.
"Adira wake up already! God, you're so lazy!" screamed my older sister. I jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom.
"I call dibs on bathroom!" I screamed at her. I ran into the bathroom and slammed the door. I turned the lock and was satisfied when it made click. Three seconds later, Marie, my older sister, started to bang on the door.
"Audi open up! It's not fair!" she whined behind the closed door.
"Nope, you snooze you lose!" I said while getting the clothes I stashed in here last night.
"You were the one snoozing!" she cried behind the door. I laughed.
"It's just a saying Marie!"
"I hate you Adira!"
"Love you to sis!" I stepped into the shower and turned the hot water on full blast.
"Well, don't take the hot water at least!" she said in defeat.
"Whatever!" I yelled over the water. I got in and just stood there letting the warm water soak into my skin. I hate Mondays with a passion. I got out of the shower and looked at my shoulder in the mirror where my birthmark is. I know everyone says that his or her birthmark looks like something, but mine really does. A little crown etched perfectly on my shoulder. I even had people ask me if it was a tattoo!
I slipped on a pair of dark grey skinny jeans, an ivory color tank top with a flowery design near the neck, a light tan color cardigan that bunches up at my elbows, brown leather boots that went a few inches above my ankle. I brushed my hair out and blow-dried it. I took out my super cool Straigtener and straightened my black hair. I combed my straight bangs that hang right above my eyebrows. I pulled on a brown mesh like beret over my head to keep my ears warm. I took out my jewelry box and slipped some wooden bangles and pearl bracelets. I pulled out my little cross that had sapphires and garnets dotting the cross. The sapphires matched my eyes and the garnet is my birthstone.
