Chapter 3
I pulled on a warm hat and turned around to face my sister who was laughing at me. I glared at her menacingly.
"You're going on a date with THE hottest guy I've ever seen and you wear that!" she said while gesturing to my outfit. I looked down at my brown snow boots that had fur on the inside. My pants are tucked into my boots and I was secretly wearing long johns underneath. I had on a green and blue plaid, flannel long sleeved shirt and I was wearing my favorite hat; a panda bear head. Yes, I know, childish.
I twirled around a little, "What, jealous at what you see?" I teased Marie. Marie walked over to me with a smile on her face. She flicked my panda bear hat right in the nose.
"Nope!" she said and turned on her heels and left.
"Craig will never forgive you for that!" I yelled at her. Yes, my hat is name Craig. Get over it.
"Miss Adira, Tyler is here!" yelled Sara from downstairs. I looked at my reflection once more worriedly. Maybe I should dress cuter, then again, we are having a picnic in January, sort of a dumb move on Tyler's behalf. I walked down the stair happily. I turned the corner and walked into the kitchen.
"Hello honey," my mom said from a chair. I walked over to her and kissed her on the head.
"Bueno noches mi madre," I said in Spanish. She couldn't help but smile. She always encouraged us to learn different languages. I walked over to my dad and planted a kiss on his cheek.
"Happy birthday my little girl," he said while hugging me. I wonder if that hugs his gift.
"Thanks!" I said with as much happiness as I could muster. "If you don't mind, I have a date tonight and I must be leaving," I said as I picked at fuzz on my shirt.
"Sure, just don't be out too late. Your father and I have something to tell you when you get home," my mother said as she looked up at me from her cup of coffee. I nodded my head obediently and walked out into the living room. On the couch, on MY couch, sat the perfect person ever.
"Hey Tyler," I said while smiling at him. He turned around with a goofy grin on his face.
"Hey, I sort of realized it was stupid to ask you on a picnic since it sort of a blizzard out there," he said and motioned to the window. "So, I've reserved us seats at restaurant," I looked down, saw that he was in a suit, and tie. Wow, don't I look underdressed?
"10 minutes please!" I call over my shoulder as I run upstairs to my room. I walk into my closet and go to my dress rack. I looked over my dresses and decided on a white strapless dress with black beading around the middle. I pulled it out and slipped it on. "Marie!" I yelled at the top of my lungs.
I heard running as she came in with a curling iron, "I'm on it," she said as she plugged it in. She took me by the arm and sat me down on a backless stool. She tied the black ribbon on my white, satin dress. She took my hair out of its braid and brushed it. Reaching for the curling iron, I felt a yank on my shoulder. "Let me do it!" she said.
After five minutes with Marie yelling at me to stay still and thirty small burns later my hair was done and in perfect black ringlets. Marie dabbed some makeup on, even though I begged her not to. I don't like makeup very much. I slipped on a white gold locket that I've had since I was a baby and a diamond bracelet. I slipped on some black strappy heels and Marie threw me a black leather jacket.
