Chapter 4

"Once upon a time," he started and I couldn't help but giggle.  "What's so funny?" Tyler asked.

"Oh nothing, it's just a very original beginning," I said with fake seriousness.

"Do you want me to continue or not?" he asked and I nodded softly.  "Once.  Upon.  A. Time," he side while making each word separate but I managed to keep down my laughter.  "An Indian girl named Aiyana prophesized that a young girl in the future shall be bitten by both werewolf and vampire.  You see, their tribe was a magical tribe filled with wolf-shifters and magic.  She also prophesized that one day the wolf-shifters and vampires will get along.  Aiyana wasn't the best prophet the tribe had seen, so they didn't think much of it.  The chief of the tribe still wrote down the prophecy, for he believed her.  The prophecy and this story was passed down to many generations, and yet, people still didn't believe.  That is until one day a wolf-shifter was out in the woods and he saw a beautiful young girl.  Her face wasn't even comparable to an angel, she was that beautiful.  She had raven black hair and crystal blue eyes like a lake.  The boy knew that she was special and that she needed to be part of their tribe.  He could hear her voice and he was sure she could hear his.  He did the unthinkable, he bit her.  You see, when a shape-shifter bites someone, his or her body accepts the poison or it doesn't; usually it doesn't.

"When the young wolf-shifter bit her, he-he tasted something funny," Tyler scrunched up his eyebrows.  I was frozen to the ground not only because my dress was actually frozen, but also because the description of the girl; it sounded a lot like me.  "He then realized that the reason that was, was because she had already been claimed, but not by a wolf, but by a vampire.  When a vampire claims someone, they don't need to bite him or her.  They somehow attach a sent to the human's blood.  The human, of course, can grow up until the vampire wants them to stay immortal.  The wolf-shifter backed away after biting the girl.  He knew that the likeliness of the girl living was about 2% only.  Even then, when the vampire comes, he or she will still bite the human even if she is a wolf-shifter," Tyler looked up at me.  "A wolf-shifter never survives after being bitten by a vampire.

"The shape-shifter felt awful for condemning this girl even more.  He knew that she would survive his venom and, so after a few months, he went searching for her.  He made it his goal to protect this young girl from the vampire whom claimed her.  The problem was, though, he couldn't find her.  That is, until recently," he said and looked up at me again.  My mouth was gaped open and the blizzard wind blew my hair into my mouth.  I dropped my gaze down to my feet.

I took in a shaky breath.  "You do know how crazy that sounds, your not even Native American," I said and I looked over him, "or are you?"  He did have tan skin but I just thought that was because he was one of those guys who played sports during the summer.

        "Ya-ya I am," he said.

"What type are you?" I asked with disbelief in my voice.  Do I really believe him?  No-no I'm just playing along.  Ya, that's it, it has to be.

"You probably don't know the name.  Our tribe wasn't a big tribe, really.  Just one of those small ones that didn't mess with anyone," he said as he picked at some snow.

"What is your tribe name?" I asked again with steel in my voice.

"Eyota," he said sadly.  Eyota, Eyota, Eyota, the word bounced against my skull.  Where have I heard that name!

"It means great, doesn't it?" I asked.  Tyler snapped his head towards me and nodded.  Snap out of it Adira, it doesn't mean anything.  You don't believe this story and you DON'T believe him.  I stood up and glared at him.  "If you think I believe this story, then you're a fool.  Now, take me home now," I said between clench teeth.  Tyler looked like he just got squashed.
