Jimin jerks nervously when the camera pans out over the ship’s sails to show the blue sky and a lone seagull flying past the mast, the bird’s sudden appearance enough to startle him in his immense tension. The movie’s only just started not five minutes ago, having barely had enough time to introduce the lead characters and their plans to spend some days on the sea in one of their dad’s sailboats, but Jimin knows Jeongguk would never pick a peaceful movie about a group of friends having fun out on the sea.
Not in a million years.
No, this is a horror movie, and the premonition of the cast being shipwrecked somewhere on an island full of monsters or zombies or cannibals or whatever has Jimin pressing into his boyfriend’s side already within the first few minutes, clutching his hoodie with both hands as he watches the main characters cast off.
While Yoongi’s following the movie’s intro with interest, he takes care to wrap an arm around Jimin’s waist to rub soothing circles into his hip, simultaneously allowing Jimin to scoot as close as he wants. Yoongi had even made sure to wrap Jimin in a fluffy duvet before the movie started, a blanket he can hide himself under in case it becomes too much to handle; he knows how nervous Jimin gets when watching scary movies, so even though Yoongi isn’t the biggest fan of PDA, he doesn’t complain when Jimin buries his face against Yoongi’s shoulder when the sailboat’s radio starts crackling ominously before their signal is cut off.
“Nervous, Chim?” Taehyung teases from the other end of the couch, his voice dripping with amusement.
“Sh-shut up,” Jimin says meekly and does a valiant attempt at sending a murderous glare at his best friend, but just as he turns his head away from the protectiveness of his boyfriend’s chest, the TV emits a sharp crack of thunder, accompanied by a bright flash, and a startled yelp leaves Jimin’s lips before he can stop himself. “Oh my god!”
There’s laughter from somewhere behind him as he pulls the duvet up to his chin before shoving his face right back into the crook of Yoongi’s neck. “At least you’re not worse than this guy,” Namjoon chuckles from the comforter next to the couch and grins down at Hoseok, who is stubbornly seated with his back to the TV, determined to not even glance at the screen. “Come on, Hobi, it’s no fun if you don’t even look.”
“What fun?” Hoseok mutters, flinching visibly when someone in the movie emits a high-pitched scream. “This is the furthest thing from fun something can ever be. I can’t believe you picked another horror movie, Jeongguk.”
The boy doesn’t tear his eyes off the TV, too enthralled by the way the sailboat is currently being turned upside down by the ocean waves, thunder and rain crashing hard on the poor characters. “I’ve been wanting to see this for a while already,” he says absentmindedly, waving a hand in Hoseok’s general direction. “Consider this payback for making us watch the latest Step Up movie last time.”
“Excuse you, the Step Up movies are fantastic and you know it.”
“Maybe the first two, but the rest are garbage, hyung.”
“That-”
