CHAPTER 10 LEXI and ADDIE
Dr. Phil just gave the floor to Addie and I. We had decided to keep some of our information private. There was nothing to be gained by telling the public or our sisters that we were created by a mentally ill scientist who made a mixture of 7 women's DNA! We had also decided not to mention Xing at all. Addie was going to drop the bombshell that no one in the public or our sisters ever knew! We had only found out in the last few days!
Addie started out by saying, "as everyone knows, we recently discovered that we have five siblings other than the two of us. With DNA testing and sites like 23 and Me and Ancestry, it's now possible to find DNA relatives. In our case, we didn't just find DNA relatives, we found our sisters! And we couldn't be happier! Dr. Phil, you asked us if we were upset that our father lied to us. He never really lied to us. He showed us a photo of our mother from many years ago. We don't know where the photo is anymore. Maybe it was too painful for him to keep. Perhaps it is in our house somewhere. But our dad left us all the detailed information that he had. Also, you asked us if we wished we had never gone on Ancestry. If Lexi hadn't sent our DNA into Ancestry, we would not have our wonderful sisters! We would be totally alone in the world. Now we have sisters and family. We are so close to Daria, Dana, and Deb's parents. They are our family. And Jess' dad now is our animal caretaker and we love him so much!" I started to cry so Lexi chimed in. "What we want the public to know is that many children are born from donor eggs or from donor sperm or from donor embryos. It is a good thing. And finding our sisters has been amazing. Part of it is strange but the other part is as if we had known them our entire lives. We are still learning so much about each other. Our dad left us letters to be opened after he died. What we have found out from our dad is that there are possibly several more who could be full siblings or half siblings. An audible gasp was heard in the audience. This is really not a surprise because many women sell or donate their eggs or embryos. And many men sell or donate sperm. It is just that with companies like 23 and Me and/or Ancestry, we can now find each other if we want to do that!" Dr Phil smiled and said, "this certainly was an unexpected turn of events. If anyone in the viewing audience thinks they are a sibling to these fine young woman, please go on our website and let us know!"
Later we heard that Ancestry had never had so many people log on to find out if they had any siblings out there! We were hoping and not hoping that there were other siblings out there! But we were ready and willing to meet anyone who was related to us because only good came from knowing our sisters.
Our letters from Dad were delivered to us a few days ago. As we each opened our large manila envelopes, a sealed letter fell on to the table. There were also Archie comic books in each of our envelopes. We cried and laughed at the same time! There was also a small wrapped box in each of our envelopes. The box had to wait because we needed to read what he wrote. It was so sad to see his signature. The letters were typed because Parkinson's Disease had affected his handwriting so much. Dad was always our daddy and we missed him so much. We only felt gratitude to this wonderful man who raised us as his own daughters. There was never anything to forgive him for. We sat and cried and cried after reading his letter to each of us. Later we opened the small gift boxes. In each one was a delicate 24K gold rainbow necklace with A2 on the back of mine and A1 on the back of Addie's.
Addie
We just came back from our Bahamas trip with our sisters. I think everyone had a wonderful time and we are even more bonded than we had ever been before. We are all going to watch Jessica dance on Dancing with The Stars tomorrow night. Lexi suggested that we all wear the dresses given to us by our sisters. Their debut fashion show is in a few weeks and they are crazy busy! Lexi and I have been chatting about our future. We knew that Dad would want us to be out in the world contributing to society. Our sisters are all out and involved in the world. Kenzie is a news reporter, Jess is soon going to be a host on Sesame Street, and Deb, Dana, and Daria are launching their fashion line in the next few weeks! Lexi and I are not doing anything to contribute to the world. Dad would definitely be on our case to do something like that! His death hit us like a ton of bricks but it is now time for us to put on our big girl pants and go be part of something bigger than ourselves!
Lexi
Addie and I are trying to figure out what to do with the rest of our lives. There is definitely enough money for us to start a foundation or a charity. But that seems too easy. Dad was a billionaire and he started and grew a hugely successful company. His company did so much good. He helped women with fertility issues, he raised money and did research for Parkinson's Disease, and he develop new prosthetics for people who were born without or lost limbs. Dad was always helping others with financial resources as well as with his time and talents. Until we met with the lawyers handling his estate, we never knew that many of his "vacation trips" were to developing countries. Maybe we could consider doing some of those trips in his memory.
We are going to model in our sisters' runway show. I think that Addie and I could each become models as a career but we just are not passionate about it. In the back of my mind, I have always wanted to create a food-based company that delivered meals to people with diseases or who were homebound. There are so many foods that are specific to a disease. I think I have decided to go back to college. I never really went because I only took online courses. I probably only need to take about a year's worth of courses to complete a degree. I think I am going to apply to UCLA because I want to stay near my family. After chatting with Addie about this plan, she agreed that she would go with me! We are going to beg Daria, Dana and Deb' mom and dad to live in our house because we want to experience living away at college!
Addie
I think that Lexi's plan to complete our degrees on campus at UCLA is a fantastic idea. Our dad was such a champion of education. We were able to convince the triplets' parents to move into our house while we live away. They wanted to pay us rent but we told them that we should be paying them to housesit! We both plan to finish our bachelor's degrees and then go to graduate school. At least we have a plan, for the past year and a half we have been grieving our dad's untimely death. We both know that he would want us out and about and living our lives!
Lexi
We found the perfect condo right down the street from campus! Unfortunately, we both decided to tell our boyfriends that we wanted to go away to college boyfriendless! Neither of us was in a serious relationship so we can all stay friends! The 6.5 fashion launch was a booming success! We are both always going to model if our sisters need us, but that is not the career for either of us. Kenzie is so much happier since she has been working with a therapist! She loves her position as junior newscaster! Jess is a hit on Sesame Street! She was on Dancing With the Stars until the week before the finals. She was fabulous on the show but knows that she would never want to dance for a living! Last week, we were contacted by a young woman who says she is a DNA match for a half sibling! We are all making plans to meet her in the neat future. I don't know what the future holds but I know that we are all better people for being part of a wonderful family and undergoing this journey together. I still want to find out who our biological father is but it just isn't that important because we know who our real dad is!
