Virgil lays down on his bed, his head in his hands. He moved a hand to his fluffy, purple and black cat ears and rubbed them to calm himself down. Soon the transformation would be complete and he would have nothing to reverse it. He knew this because he was in one of the last stages of the dreaded thing. That being losing the ability to speak. Although he was capable of meowing and whimpering.
It had started with cat ears and a tail. Then the cat urges began coming up. Now this. Luckily the others never caught onto his occasional disappearances, but this time they may. Who knew when he was going to get back to human form. Virgil guessed that once he was in cat form he was going to be in it till he died.
His ears perked up as he could hear Patton yell for him from the kitchen for dinner. Virgil groaned as he sat up and leaned against the bed frame. What was he going to do about speaking? 'Maybe I could just make something up.' He thought as he slowly stood up and threw on his hood. He opened the door to his bedroom, closing it behind him. He walked down to the kitchen. When reaching it Logan had already arrived and sitting in his usual seat. As was Patton. Roman hadn't arrived yet.
"Hey kiddo!" Patton exclaimed once seeing him. Virgil nodded towards him and sat down in his own chair.
Logan glances over to him, "Greetings Virgil." Virgil nodded towards him also. Logan gave him a slightly confused look but shook it off.
Suddenly Roman burst through the door opening and said rather loudly, "You called!"
Roman was being far too loud for Virgil's current state and he whimpered loudly with his eyes shut tight.
Patton turned his head towards Virgil and said quietly, "Are you okay kiddo?"
After realizing what he had done, Virgil opened his eyes and nodded quickly. Hiding the fear he felt from his face. All the sides were looking at him now as his eyes darted wildly, waiting for this to end.
Roman broke the silence through asking, "Hey, why aren't you talking?" Virgil just shrugged as his eyes settled on looking at one spot of the table.
Roman turned his head away from him as he sat down, breaking the tension. "So, what's for dinner?"
Patton grinned as stood up and said, "Mac n cheese!" He gave each of them a serving and sat down again.
They all began eating, although Virgil just poked at his food, dreading what was to come. Eventually Patton took notice of this and asked, "Are you sure you're okay kiddo?"
Virgil just nodded slowly and went back to looking down.
Patton nodded back, "Okay kiddo, whatever you say."
During dinner they conversed, Virgil nodding whenever someone talked to him but for the most part he tuned out. After a while Virgil felt a sharp pain in his ears and a strange tingling sensation throughout his body. He stood up quickly, nearly knocking his chair over in the process. Logan stopped mid sentence and they looked over at him.
Patton asked with a concerned expression plastered on his face, "Virge?"
Virgil looked over at them and he pain in his ears and body grew sharper. He winced from the pain and ran towards his room, wincing along the way there. Patton called after him but he was so distracted he didn't hear him. Virgil slammed the door and kneeled over in pain. He clutched his head as his vision blurred and grew dark. The other sides' voices on the other side of the door became distant and faded. Soon he grew limp and collapsed with a thud, unconscious.
