Catharine walked up the creaking and groaning stairs to the termite infested door, which opened with a moan on it's rusted hinges. To be smacked in the face by a stale smell, which brought tears to her eyes and dried out her throat. She walked forth on floor boards that screamed with every step that she took, to what her eyes saw as a dusty living room filled with lifeless furniture and paintings of people who she thought were the previous owners. She looked around with curious eyes and stumbled upon a family portrait which seemed the size of a 16 inch plasma.
With closer inspection she noticed the oldest girl looked at lot like her when she was 10 years of age, when she looked even closer at the girl she noticed a silver locket in the shape of a heart around her neck. Catharine looked at the girl's eyes to see they were glowing a faint red rose colour. Startled by this she jerked backwards and noticed the painting had moved an inch or two away from the wall. She walked with caution towards the painting and opened it more, to find sitting there in the safe was the necklace that was in the painting accompanied by an old jewllery box and a newspaper article from 1809.
Catharine reached into the safe and grabbed the silver locket only to find it pulling her towards the grand marble staircase covered in a blanket of dust and cobwebs. Catharine followed the locket with caution as she was curious as to where the locket will lead her. The locket led her through multiple narrow, dusty hallways to end up at a little girls room. Catharine stumbled into the bedroom and the locket stopped pulling her. She looked around the room and noticed a rocking chair moving without any life to help it.
She moved to the window to open it to let the stale smell out "Damn...its locked" she said hitting the window still in frustration. The rocking chair stopped screeching in pain, she turned around quickly to find the ghost of a tall, broad shoulder, skinny man standing in the doorway. He bowed his head at Catharine then turned and walked away. Catharine was curious as to where he was going and decided to follow with light footsteps. After a while of following him, the man stopped suddenly in front of two doors that lead to the main bedroom, where the ghost of a tall, skinny and vulnerable woman sat at the dresser crying ghostly tears.
The man still hadn't noticed that Catharine had been following him. She watched the man with great caution as he neared the crying woman. The woman wailed with every strike the man took at her. After about 3 minutes of watching the woman getting beaten up, Catharine walked in and spoke up making both the man and woman jump. A smirk was dancing on the lips of the man as he neared Catharine. "Run, Go, he'll kill you! , please save yourself Edith" the woman screamed at Catharine.
Catharine was confused and decided to do what the woman told her, she turned around to run out but the man was now outside the main bedroom. He started walking towards Catharine making her backup towards the window. "Please John... she's our eldest chid, please just let her live! it's not her fault, she had nothing to do with it... it was all me" the woman was now next to the man on her knees pleading him not to hurt Catharine. The man pushed the fragile woman aside and continued walking towards Catharine.
Catharine started to panic a little and was looking for a way to escape the man's grasp. Suddenly a large gast of wind blew the old broken window open and in flew a raven the size of a cat. Catharine screamed and ran out the room, not even looking back to see if the man was following her.
When she got back the little girls bedroom something was different. Catharine looked around before entering the room once more, upon entering the room Catharine felt as if someone or something was watching her, but she couldn't see anything. Sitting there on the dresser was the jewllery box and newspaper article that were in the safe.
Catharine started to get scared, she opened the jewllery box to find that there was nothing in there. She looked up into the mirrior and saw her reflection and in the backgruond was a little girl holding her stuffed toy, Catharine gasped and turned around to find standing there in the corner of the room was the little girl and her toy.
The girl started walking towards Catharine which made her back up against the dresser. "Don't be afraid Edith" the little girl said with a soft ghostly voice that sent shivers down Catharine's spine. "W-who are you and why won't you let me leave" Catharine said trying to hold her tears back.
