"I knew he wasn't good for me, but once I got a taste I kept coming back."
It's been 2 days since I last spoke to, or even saw Charming.
This morning, I get up and go to school as normal, but I find myself glancing at my phone, contemplating whether I should text him or not.
"Girl, you kept staring at your phone all through geometry and now your eyes are looking dull and all zoned out. It's creeping me out. Are you even listening to me? Hello?
"ELIZABELLE COLEMAN, STOP THIS WEIRD ASS BEHAVIOR AND TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON!"
"What?" I snap, just a tad bit annoyed by all the unwanted eyes and ears observing our private conversation.
"You better tell me why you're acting this way before the end of lunch."
I frown, stabbing at my chicken salad with my fork. I had yet to inform her about Saturday's events.
I chew a piece of meat thoughtfully before telling Jules about Charming, truth or dare, and the pool incident.
She listens closely, not wanting to miss out on any valuable information.
"So, you have his number?" Her smile gradually grows wider to the point of creepy.
"That's all you got from that? Seriously?"
"It matters the most."
"That's debatable."
"What is it?"
I reluctantly dig into my purse and pull out my phone. Popping the case off and looking at the slip of paper I had carefully taped inside, I read off the numbers.
"Why do you ask, by the way?"
I move to put the case back on my phone to find it's missing.
"Based on what I've heard, he doesn't have your number. You need to make the first move."
"Jules, what exactly did you do?"
"It's for your good; I swear!"
I grab the phone out of her hand and check my texting app first.
"How did you unlock my phone?"
"Lucky guess. Your password's pretty easy; it's only a number pin. And to be honest, 1234 isn't that smart."
It looks like I'll be changing it.
I open my most recent chat and come across a message sent "just now". A heart and winking face emoji are the first things I see.
Me: Hey Charming❤️ Had fun 2 nights ago😉
"Why Juliana?" I cover my face with my free hand, "Why would you do this to me?"
"I told you, it's for your good! Don't hurt me!"
"Hurt you? Why would I simply hurt you when I could do so much-"
My phone vibrates with a notification and I peer down to get a closer look.
Charming: That makes two.
I stare at the message, slack-jawed. I type back a reply as soon as I recover.
Me: That was my friend.
"Liz, what in the hell are you doing?"
Feeling startled, I jump.
"He's into you," Jules sighs, "You're just as clueless as boys are."
