Today marks day one of my online classes since CUNY decided to make the switch for the rest of the semester. So I decided: "let's relax today and get our shit together to make this transition easy".
I decided to sleep in, wash my hair. I have very curly hair so it's a long an tedious process regarding styling and such that I only do once a week. But in the end I feel like a new woman.
Anyways so I finished the process at around 1:30pm. I've been staying with my father for the past few days at his house, so it's just him and I there. Once I decided to go downstairs and make some oatmeal topped with strawberries, honey and blueberries, he popped the question. As I stood there in the kitchen, wearing only my bathrobe, he asks if the neighbors daughter can come over and make brownies. I told the man that in half an hour was my first online meeting and I also have to read two plays along with another class later on this evening.
He didn't seem to understand this explanation as to why I didn't feel like having the neighbors daughter come over. So, she came over and it went downhill from there. Right before she came over I spilled my glass of water all over the floor of the living room. This of course made my father upset. I went upstairs to grab some towels to put over the water and right as my foot hit the top step, she was here. I froze and ran into my room to hide. I couldn't let an innocent little 7? 10? Year old girl I think... see me like this! I grabbed the nearest pair of shorts and put them on under my robe but wait a second... something kind of smelled weird.
Oh shit
The fire alarm started blaring throughout the house while the scent of burning oil crept upstairs. I ran down to the first floor and saw our neighbors daughter sitting at the kitchen table with a bowl of brown liquid sitting in front of her (brownie mix duh). She started at me so I asked her: "is there a fire?" . I then heard loud footsteps running up from the basement and my father appears, flustered telling me that he had just left a pan with oil in it in the oven prior to turning the heat on.
Well at this point I just re-iterated myself to him regarding how I must attend my online class and do my readings then went back up to my room. Which is where I think I will continue to hide for the rest of the day.
