Prologue

Humanity lived its days peacefully. Everything seemed too good to be true, poverty was almost solved, crime rates was reduced by fifty percent, technology steadily grows, and nations cooperated with each other.

But one day, the creatures of fantasy became real. Goblins, Orcs, Zombies, and even Dragons appeared out of thin air, then these creatures started attacking people.

Mankind tried to retaliate but their current weapons can’t even scratch the lowest tier of monsters. Their love for destruction led cities and even a few nations to ruins.

Some studied their nature, some made superstitions. Sometimes, they come in swarms in an organized manner, which seems there is someone or something controlling them. Their research didn’t progress, and humanity is starting to count its last days. But never did they know, their salvation is coming.

Outside the city of Fursch, the military placed a barricade to protect the city from the horde of monsters in the middle of the day. But they knew, their efforts are futile. They only need to buy time for the citizens to evacuate. Hopelessness can be seen in their faces.

When the swarm of monsters from the distance entered the sights of the soldiers, their looks of horror intensified, but as the guardians of the people, they cannot be seen with such faces, so that’s why they put a brave front. The advance of the monsters are slow giving them a precious ten minutes to continue evacuation.

Few minutes until the monsters reached the barricade, the soldiers steadied their sights at the enemy. Reinforcements reached the barricade from within the city.

“Take your positions immediately! We don’t have time for your little antics!”

The CO shouted and the men quickly moved towards their respective positions. Then after that, utter silence filled the atmosphere. One soldier murmured that they are just waiting for their doom, but it’s not a complete mistake. You wouldn’t want to lose your life without a fight right? But this scene is just a nasty massacre, with the soldiers throwing themselves into the fray without any means of fighting back.

The lack of noise continued for a minute, until…

“Sir? Is that a human being?”

A soldier pointed to sky, as the commander brought out his binoculars. He looked towards the direction where the soldier pointed using his binoculars. He saw two people dressed in black clothing floating up high with their backs towards him.

He guessed that the duo was composed of a girl, because of the black long hair swaying freely with the wind and the French maid-like outfit, and a boy, for the reason that the other person’s hair is a short and messy black hair that seems to go along with his black coat. The girl’s height only reached the boy’s shoulder.

The two gave a glance at the stationed military, and gave a nod while their masks hid their expressions, that seems giving the message that they will take care of the horde, returned their sights to the swarm of monsters beneath them. The commander asked himself how they could float dozens of meters above the ground and what can they do about the monsters that are invincible against mankind’s current weaponry, but something assured him that they will be leaving safe and sound here, and a small sigh, he gave an order.
