White double doors. This is the entrance of a place somewhat like hell. But this is high school. Wearing grey ripped jeans, black high-top converse and a sloppy joe in thirty-five degree heat, with charcoal black hair cascading down her shoulders, is Lauren. Lauren is seventeen years old and the schools punching bag. She walks through the halls of school with being pushed, tripped and thrown into the walls. She has been through this for three years. Being the only one to not live in the ‘high estate’ in town but her parents’ abuse her and fight with each other every night. So Lauren struggles with her self-confidence and is insecure about herself. At school, she sits by herself in the courtyard, eating her lunch. She was just sitting there eating her salad until the ‘bullies’ came up to her with a smirk on their faces. “Hey Brains, what’s for lunch?” the elder one said. Lauren got into the school by scholarship. Straight A’s were what she got every year and everyone knew about it. So being a brainiac, she got bullied into doing the ‘preps’ homework and she got names like ‘brains’, ‘dork’ and ‘nerd’.  “Umm… I h-have a sa-salad” Lauren said nervously because the preps were staring her down. “Well… I have a milkshake that I’m sure—“ the elder paused before pouring the chocolate shake on her. “You would enjoy.” Lauren got up rapidly, seeing the damage done to her clothes, then ran to the bathroom in tears. The uproar of laughter filled the courtyard. Everyone laughed except one, a nobody, an invisible person to everyone. She stood to the sidelines so she wouldn’t be confronted by anyone. She swiftly made her way to the bathroom to find the victim of the preps’ work. When she walked in, she heard the sobs of Lauren. Knocking on the bathroom stall where the cries where coming from. “Hi Lauren, I saw what happened out there. Do you want to talk about?” the unknown voice startled Lauren but immediately opening the door and launching herself at the girl. She didn’t even know who this girl was but she knew that the girl cares. She sobbed uncontrollably into the girls shoulder, but realised that she didn’t know why this girl sounded like she cares. Lauren thinks that this girl was playing with her. She lifted her head and the first things she sees were the girls deep chocolate brown eyes which met her emerald green ones. She took a step back, reaching into her backpack, and removing a tissue and trying the clean herself up. The girl seeing that Lauren wasn’t succeeding, she grabbed the tissue from the green eyed girls’ hand, wetting it and helping her clean up her face. “Why are you helping me? I don’t even know you” she snapped at the girl. She never showed her weak side to anyone, but today her emotions got the better of her. “My name is Camila, pronounced Cameela and I wanted to help you because I want to be your friend.” Camila talked softly because of Laurens vulnerable state. “But I’m ‘Brains’, the schools nerd. If you be my friend, you will get bullied” tears were streaming down Lauren’s face reliving moments getting bullied in her head. “Don’t push someone away that wants to help you. Let me in. let me help you Lo.” Lauren flinched when she heard ‘Lo’ that’s what her so called ‘father’ calls her before the abuse comes. Lauren turned around grabbing her school bag and bolting out of the bathroom to the school office. Even though if her mother picks her up, her father will be at home after dinner from work so she should be safe. She told the office lady that she had a stomach bug and she called her mother to pick her up. As soon as Lauren got home, she went straight to her room, taking her pillow into her arms and sits on her bed sobbing into it.

She couldn’t deal with it anymore…

She quickly changed into something comfortable, running out the front door and as far away as possible. She was walking for about forty minutes until she found herself standing at the edge of a bridge, not knowing how she got there. Standing there contemplating for ten minutes whether to take that next step until she was hearing voices in her head saying ‘Why are you even here?’, ‘Go die, no one will care’. They were the voices of the preps and her father. To Lauren, what they were saying were true. No one will care if she jumped.

No one…

The voices were getting louder and more intense. Just before talking that last step, she heard a different voice.

It was Camila’s.

Camila was just taking a walk before she went to her part time job when she saw somebody standing at the edge of the bridge. She knew that flowing brunette hair from earlier today. She ran as fast as she could to reach her before she jumped off the bridge.

“LAUREN! What are you doing!?” Camila came running towards her and quickly pulled her away from the ledge, pulling her into her grasp, holding onto her for dear life. For some reason, Camila burst into tears. She cries uncontrollably into the green eyed girl’s neck. Lauren comforted the smaller girl by rubbing her back soothingly. After about twenty minutes just standing there in each other’s arms. After Camila had stopped crying, she pulled away from Lauren and wiping her tears, the make-up running down her face. “Camila, why are you crying?” Camila didn’t answer; she just looked at her feet like they were the most interesting things at the moment. “Camila?” Lauren questioned again, but this time she made Camila at her by tilting her chin upwards. “I was crying because-” Camila pauses, figuring out what words to say. “-because you were just about to kill yourself,  just after I looked after you and offered to be your friend like it was nothing. Lauren, I’m trying to help you. Please just let me do that.” by this stage Camila was on the verge of tears after her outburst, but on the other hand Lauren was baling her eyes out after the brown eyed girls little speech. Camila just pulled her into embrace and told her that everything will be ok.

At school the next day, Camila and Lauren walked through the white double doors side by side. After yesterday, they exchanged numbers in case Lauren needed anything and Camila also drove Lauren to school this morning. As they approached their lockers, which surprisingly across the hallway from each other, the preps came walking towards Lauren with their signature smirk. “Hey Dork! How was your milkshake yesterday?” the elder one said while shoving Lauren into her locker, slamming the door in the process. She just looks down at her feet, tears springing to her eyes. “Hey turdbrain, pick on someone your own size” Lauren knew that voice to only be Camila, so being the good person she is, she warns Camila to stop by giving her a look. “Excuse me?” The elder one said, turning around to face Camila. “What gives you the right to talk to me that way?” “What gives YOU the right to treat my friend like that?” Camila snarls back, walking over towards Lauren, whispering an ‘are you ok’ before standing in front of her, guarding her. “Well, because I can you little fu-” before he could finish, the headmaster came to see what all the commotion was about. So Lauren and Camila told the headmaster everything. The headmaster showed no mercy and gave all the preps twenty-one days detention after they came back from their four week suspension.

After being tortured for two years, she finally ridded them and gained a new friend. Everyone praised the girls for putting the preps’ in their place and by doing this, the girls made a few new friends.

When the preps came back they didn’t even go near the two girls, almost avoiding them at every turn, scared that they will do worse damage…
