The lights in Venice are a beautiful thing to see, especially when your perched upon the stone cross at the greatest height of the city. Slowly and cautiously, Franchesco, my brother, and I, were descending the watch tower, guards unaware of our presence.
" We must hurry Piero," Said my brother in an urgent voice, his eyes darting all aound the area as we dropped down into a piazza filled with gardens and statutes of past courteseans of Venice. "we can't risk Gabriel returing before we've snatched up that chest Lorenzo has been drooling over for the past three years." I laughed at this, Lorenzo had a sense of humor like no other, even in the most doubtful times of our missions. I persed my lips and glanced over my shouler at the sun, it was beginning to set and Gabriel would be home soon from her trip. Our time was spindeling down all to quickly, but soon enough the chest would be ours. My eyes swooped across the piazza, no guard in sight, yet, Gabriels chamber door lay just beyond the rose gardens, somethings not right ablut this. With agloved hand I grasped my brothers shoulder, he turned, stunned. " Something the matter brother?" His amber eyes flickered up to mine, his sharp angular jaw set in a menacing posture.
" Somthing is a amiss Francesco, does it seem logical that Gabriel is the most protected courtesan in all of Venice, yet there is no guard in sight. What if they're waiting just beyond the bend for us, brother?!"
"Something's not right...." He repeated under his breath, raising my hopes that just maybe he was considering the possibilities of an ambush. " You're right brother," he spoke and my eyes lightened up. " what's wrong is you haven't a glorious chest in the possession of those tricky hands of yours, nor a lovely courtesean to teach a good lesson. Am I right? My brother snickered and I just rolled my eyes. My brother continued to snicker as he strided through the rose garden, plucking one a he went on his way to Gabriels door just beyod the rose gardens. "This is it brother," He began to turn the door handle and push the door open, he looked at me, "We are-" A whistling of air caught my attention, alarmed I quickly jerk back out of the doorway. A violent shaking tore large cracks in the piazza ground, torrents if movement sent me sprawling to my hands and knees. I looked up, frantic, in search of Franchesco, it was too late. I started in horror at my older brothers and the rose was covered in blood and fell slowly to the ground.
Franchesco gripped the shaft of an arrow, loged in his throat, blood spewing from the wound, down his armor staining the piazza's marble floor. "Brother!" I screamed out to Franchsco but before I could manage to make my way to him a long crack exploded into the night air, the piazza falling away beneath my feet, taking my brother and I with it. I watched him fall as I slid down the marble, his hand reached out to me, but he disappeared. Frantic as I was, I clung to anything I could, everything slipping through my fingers. Darkness fell Upon Venice that Dreadful day, as well as my life, so I thought.
I was seen as crimal, an outcast, a vagabond... but no one could see my true intentions. They would soon enough, and they would regret their mistake.
