Chapter 4 - Taehyung

The air inside the diner was warm and sticky. Outside the somber half light of the wet morning still seemed brighter than the electric lights above. It was busy but quiet. Most of the customers sat alone in their faded leather alcoves, staring thoughtlessly out the window. Taehyung scanned across the faces in the diner, their names appearing on his monitor. He frowned when he couldn't find a Jung Hoseok. The officer beside him didn't seemed worried, he walked over to the counter and waited.

"Jungkook!"

A young man with a bright smile, emerged from the kitchen holding about three too many plates across his arms. Taehyung followed Jungkook over to the counter.

"Hang on," he called, "I'll be right there..."

Weaving in between the tables he dropped of various dishes full of greasy chips to different customers, often stopping to speak with those he recognized. He was loud and laughed often. Far too lively for the half dead diner. Once he finished he came over and sat up on the counter.

"Who's your friend officer?"

Taehyung had been equipped with the most sophisticated analysis software available. He was designed to aid police investigations where the ability to read and interpret micro expressions was very important.

Fond. The suspect was looking at him fondly. Most people's reaction to seeing him were anything between indifferent and hostile. It was... nice. He reasoned that he was pleased because this would help aid the investigation,and not because it felt good to be welcomed.

"I'm Taehyung , the android sent by Cyberlife."

"Do you always say that," mumbled Jungkook beside him.

Taehyung shrugged and for a moment the two only stared at each other. Hoseok stuck his head in between them.

"So, you here for coffee or...?"

Jungkook stuffed his hands in his pockets and stared down at the ground.

"Actually, I'm here for a case."

"Oh,"

 He jumped off the table and gestured for them to follow. Walking over to a machine and he started to make coffees. A long minute past and when the android realised his partner didn't plan to elaborate he continued:

"An android broke into the Cyberlife complex -"

"Yeah I heard about that on the news," Hoseok called over his shoulder, "Jk that's a big case! Good for you," he turned to Taehyung, "he's always complaining about how they never-"

"You never told me you had a criminal record!" Jungkook blurted out.

Hoseok stopped his work. His smile faded and for the first time since they'd seen him he was still.

"What's this about?"

Jungkook flushed slightly and took a breath.

"The android that broke into Cyberlife," he started again, "the thief I have been looking for all this time they're both the same android. One you stole from OAA"

The android watched the him wince slightly.

"I didn't st-" he sighed, shaking his head, "Ah Jk, it wasn't like that"

"Where is it Hoseok?"

"I don't know! I haven't seen him since that night!" He stared into Jungkooks narrowing eyes "I'm telling the truth"

"What and you didn't think to look for him?"

"I assumed he'd left the city."

"Well, he didn't"
