Chapter 8

Who let the dogs out? Woof! Woof! Woof!

The event hall at the Grand Coven's House is buzzing with excitement. In a few minutes they're going to see werewolves in the flesh. Werewolves! Can you imagine that?

"Isn't this exciting, Namjoon? This is a one in a million chance. Thank you for agreeing to accompany me.", Hoseok said giddily while he prepares his camera. "Oooh, I hope we get to take a selfie with them."

Namjoon chose to ignose Hoseok and just focused on the stage before them. Grand Count Suho is already there together with his staff, as well as several members of the government's secret service. Seven empty chairs are seen. The vampires can already smell the werewolves. They smell like damp soil, but surprisingly, not unpleasant to one's nose.

"Ahem, ahem. If I can just have your attention, ladies and gentlemen, we are about to start.", a staff of count Suho spoke at the podium in front. "As per our guests request, no documentation of any kind from the audience is allowed. So please put away your cameras and smart phones. Any one seen breaking this rule will be asked to leave."

A lot of grumbling can be heard but did what they were asked. Hoseok was visibly disappointed as he hid his camera in his bag, huffing the whole time. Namjoon couldn't help but smile inside.

It was really hard to convince Seokjin not to barge into their own coven's home and give Hoseok a piece of his mind. Good thing Jungkook was there to pacify his eomma. The young vampire told his eomma that this is actually a good opportunity for Namjoon. His exposure with actual werewolves will help him in his own investigation. The sooner that appa Namjoon get to the bottom of this, the sooner they can have their freedom back. That definitely enticed Seokjin to consider letting Namjoon attend the meeting. And after much wooing and promises of travels once this is all over, Seokjin finally gave him permission to leave.

Everyone fell silent when the Grand Count took the podium.

"Good evening everyone. I am grateful for everyone's presence. As you all know, our kind, as well the humans are faced with, let's say, a curious situation. Werewolves were suddenly sighted in the city several weeks back and we do not know their origins and what they are capable of. Since then, we have launched our own internal investigation, in coordination with the government. Tonight, we will be hearing the results of your efforts. And to help us evaluate them, and hopefully clear any issues, we are blessed with the presence of the leaders of the only werewolf pack that we know of and recognize. Please, welcome to the stage, the Supreme Alpha Jaebum and his board members!

Everyone gasped as the werewolves entered the venue. They were large and looked intimidating. All of them are tall, no one less than six feet, muscular, with chiseled features. Namjoon suddenly felt tiny. He's not exactly sure what he was expecting but he was surprised to see them all well groomed and wearing suits. Nobody seem to know how to smile, though.

The alpha shook hands with Count Suho and greeted the elders of the coven before taking his seat. The rest followed and moved in perfect synchrony. The tension in the air becoming more intense as the vampires wait for what's going to happen next.

"Alright, now everybody is settled, let us hear the individual reports of each coven.", Kai announced and called one by one the head of each coven to relay the results of their own investigation.

Namjoon breathed a sigh of relief upon realizing that their coven are not the only ones who came up empty handed. Even the government has the same findings. After hearing the same things over and over again, Kai just asked for anyone who have anything different to contribute. No one raised their hands.

Alpha Jaebum whispered to Count Suho who then signalled Kai to show again the footages of the werewolves captured on CCTV. The alpha watched in full concetration, eyebrows knitted together, jaw clenched. After it was done, the alpha asked for permission to speak. Everyone hushed as he took the podium and spoke in a commanding voice.

"Good evening. Thank you for the kind invitation and warm welcome. I can see why you would feel threatened by the sudden appearance of werewolves within your vicinity. I can assure you that our pack mean no harm to any kind and I can say for certain that the wolves that we just watched aren't from our pack."

The hall was suddenly filled with hushed whispers. They are not their kind? Then who are these new wolves? Where did they come from?

The wolf raised his hands and the hall is filled with silence once again.

"Let me explain further..."

And on cue, one of the pack members approached the podium and brought their own video presentation. It was a video showing the land where the pack are currently living in peace. Namjoon watched the whole presentation in awe. He can't believe how ignorant he, the whole world probably, is when it came to werewolves.

They weren't as primitive as everyone thought. They live in modern houses, they have malls, buildings, schools, hospitals and is very much acquainted with modern technology. Apparently, while they have chosen to be isolated from the rest of the world physically, they have continued to have an open communication with the government and have opened their ports for trade, hence, they evolved and progressed just as the rest of the world did.

But what captivated the audience is the part where the alpha showed the physical characteristics of their pack. While there are certainly differences in the sizes among omegas, betas and alphas, everyone is pretty much built the same: tall, muscular and chiseled, even the women. And what definitely set them apart from the wolves roaming around is the way they shift. The pack can shift in a second and their wolves are huge with long, thick fur. The wolves captured in cctvs look like ordinary humans. It takes time for them to shift and has thin fur that clings to skin. They're also more lean and visibly smaller. They definitely do not belong to the same pack.

"So you see, everyone, we have no reason to invade your land. We are very much contended with who and what we are today. As I've informed Count Suho before, all our members are accounted for. No one is missing. And as if I can't stress this any further, your wolves are very much different from ours. We are not the same. That is all I have to say to this matter. Thank you very much!", the alpha ending his presentation and speech.

Namjoon, suddenly feeling brave and extremely curious, spoke out. "Can you help us locate them? I mean can you scent them out?"

The whole hall suddenly looked at Namjoon like he's an alien or something. Hoseok scooted away from him while Count Yoongi facepalmed himself. The Grand Count just looked at him with an unreadable expression while the Alpha smirked.

"Locate them through scenting? We are wolves not just your ordinary domestic canine. Of course, we can! And right now I can tell you that the reason you cannot find them is because they are not above ground. You can figure out the rest."

With that, the Alpha went back to his seat while the rest of the pack stared at Namjoon due to his insolence. Namjoon, meanwhile wished that the ground would just swallow him whole. He should have just listened to Seokjin and did not come to the meeting at all. Well, at least his question was answered.

After the meeting adjourned, the pack spent time to converse with the elders and the Grand Count inside the hall. Only a handful of the original vampires exist today as most have perished during wars. The rest were told that they can leave and will be informed when and where the next meeting would take place. Just as the representatives of the Luna Splendida coven were about to exit the premises, Kai called them out.

"Count Yoongi, with your permission, the Supreme Alpha would like to speak with Namjoon."

Namjoon froze in his spot while Count Yoongi nervously asked, "Is there an issue? Certainly we can talk it out. Please tell the Alpha and Count Suho that my member did not meant any harm."

Kai chuckled. "Nah, there's no problem. The alpha likes him!"

Namjoon breathed a sigh of relief. "Really? Can Count Yoongi come with me?"

"Sure! But not Hoseok. Hoseok can just wait here."

Namjoon stiffled a laugh upon seeing Hoseok's crestfallen face. He can't wait to go home and tell Seokjin eveything!
