I've been looking forward to this drama ever since it was announced officially. From what I learned, it was a collaboration from the director and scriptwriter of Reply series and Prison Playbook. I haven't watched the later but I heard it's phenomenal. I might give it a go some other time. On the other hand, I am a fan of Reply series. The drama portrayed the perfect element of arts in every generation it was set making it appealing to the audiences. Considering how brilliant the storyline was, I have high expectations of this one becoming another lifetime series.
The plot. The drama follows 5 individuals who have been friends for more than 20 years as they continue to spend their everyday lives as doctors working in the same hospital. I'm curious as to why the title is Hospital Playlist but it could be a figure of speech. A playlist consists of different genres, from sentimental ballads, electronic pop to mid-tempo soul. An understandable representation of what life in a hospital is. It could also be a musical. These actors made names in theaters so it wouldn't be a surprise. Nonetheless, it manages to capture my attention.
Medical dramas are becoming a trend. With the successful completion of Dr. Romantic, the pressure is high. There are thousands of stories inside a medical facility and each is sure to tug your heart. I'm sure these actors would give justice to those emotions that I can't wait for it to start.
The trailer looks promising. It highlights the chemistry between these famous actors. From what it looks like, each has a unique personality and how they managed to stay as friends makes it more highly anticipating. Becoming friends is easy but staying as one with the intervention of life is quite a challenge. I'm still with my group of high school friends and we managed to keep the circle tight even if we do have our personal lives to tend. I'm looking forward to real camaraderie between the cast.
It also portrays the seemingly normal lives of doctors. I'm in the healthcare profession and I can attest that there is more to it than what others think as just cure and discharge. Lives end and begin inside the hospital. The video had as a glimpse of the struggles of those who witness such phenomena on a regular basis. I can see me shedding a bucket of tears. Might have some tissues ready!
The characters. But what really pulled me into this one is the star-studded cast. Three of my favorite actors are in plus 2 unknown to me so the unpredictable synergy between them is another reason to watch this drama.
Jo Jung Suk as Lee Ik-Joon, professor of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery. How cool is that! Ever since he played Eun Shi-Kyung in King 2 hearts, I have been looking forward to his dramas. He was the best in Oh My Ghost. Looks like he plays a carefree genius doctor which really suits his personality. Have you seen him in Jealousy Incarnate? 🤩 You'll wish for more if you have. The above video shows him nailing it again.
Yoo Yeon Seok will play Ahn Jung-won, a professor of pediatric surgery. From the trailer, he exudes warmth and compassion which a pediatrician should have. Last time I saw him was in a reality show Coffee Friends. He was brilliant in Dr. Romantic season 1 and a really good kisser 😊. I'm already looking forward to his love interest although the trailer didn't show any. I'll be genuinely disappointed if he didn't have any kiss scenes. So, please 🙏!!!
Jung Kyung Ho will be a professor of cardiothoracic surgery, Kim Joonwan. He's the reason I'm here 🥰. It's really been a while. I haven't seen him since Missing Nine. Although he was amazing, it lacks a romantic feeling. I was disappointed with the writer so I'm hoping this wouldn't be the same. His charm was shown full-blown in Innocent Love that I was sure he will be one of the most sought leading man. Maybe because he's dating Sooyoung that he didn't receive that much attention but I wish people would look into his ability as an actor. Cheering for him as always!
Kim Dae Myung as Yang Seok-Hyung A professor of obstetrics and gynecology surgery. I'm not familiar with him but I can see his character as an odd introverted physician goes with his looks. Interesting yet I'm not sure if an ob-gyn should have that personality. Then again, talented ones aren't really that normal. I'm keeping an eye on him.
Jeon Mi-do will be Chae Song-Hwa, a professor of neurological surgery. The rose among the thorns. Even right now, I'm jealous of her. Surrounded by dashing princes, I'm sure she was involved in one or two of that handsomeness. My research says she's famous in musical theaters. I'm reserving my judgment on her acting but I can't stop loving her already. Cool, independent woman that can handle guys on her own plus neurosurgery at that? What a bad-ass chic!.
It will run for 12 episodes. One episode every week. If this turns out to be awesome, this would be torture. 2 episodes have been released while I'm writing this. So then, let's start!
