Emaya's pov

Once I got most of my luggage put away, I plopped down on my new bed. It was softer and squishier than my old one, and I liked it.

I heard a knock on my door,

J: "Emi!"

I got up out of bed and opened my door.

E: "what bubba?"

I looked up to see Josh and 6 other boys. My eyes widened and I could feel my face getting hot. Did I really just called Josh bubba in front of his friends?

E: "i- I mean Josh"

I stuttered hopelessly. Well that was an embarrassing first impression. I could hear one of his shorter friends giggle, which was pretty cute. CUTE? what?! I don't need a boyfriend, or a crush in general. I just moved here, and I need to get settled in.

J: "uh.. you wanna come to the park with us?" Josh chuckled a little.

My face lit up,

E: "there's a park?!"

Josh nodded and rolled his eyes as I grabbed my slides and put them on over my socks.

Once I was done I looked back to see the hallway in front of my door empty. The boys were gone?

I ran out of my room and down the stairs.

E: "wait for me you rat!"

Mattia: "aggresive."

A tall boy looked at me and smirked. I rolled my eyes and looked away.

The tall boy chuckled a little and followed Josh and the rest of the group as they walked outside.

I ran after them as they walked down the street.

As I ran down the stairs outside my house, I tripped and fell forward, hard. I luckily caught myself with my hands but I heard my wrist crack.

E: "fuck..." i whispered to myself.

As I struggled to get up, I felt a hand grab mine. I flinched and winced, but then looked up to see one of Josh's friends who I guess was left behind. He was the one who giggled earlier.

Boy: "oh gosh. Im sorry, did that hurt?"

My eyes widened. Why was he being so caring?

E: "n-no i- i-"

I stuttered and struggled to speak as I felt my eyes starting to water.

As hot tears slid down my cheeks, I felt the boys hands grab mine, and bring me up.

As soon I was standing, he pulled me into a tight but gentle hug that felt amazing.

Boy: "hey, it's okay. No need to cry."

He said quietly as I dug my head into him chest.

I sniffled and as we broke the hug, I wiped my tears.

E: "sorry.."

I looked down but then back up at the handsome boy, and smiled purely.

Boy: "it's not your fault. We left you behind... anyway, I'm Kairi."

E: "I'm Emaya, but it's okay if you call me Emi."

Kai: "that's pretty cute."

I could feel my cheeks getting hot as we said that.

E: "thanks.. but I think I did something to my wrist."

I looked at him concerned.

Kai: "let me look at it."

Kairi stuck his hand out and I pulled my sleeve up and showed him my wrist.

His eyes widened a little as he looked at my purple and blue wrist.

Kai: "it's so bruised"

E: "what should I do?"

I was getting a little scared. What if it was broken?

Kai: "there's a little clinic about 20 minutes from here, if you want to walk."

E: "there isn't much else we can do, so sure I guess."

Kai: "okay, but let's get some ice first okay bubs?"

E: "bubs?"

I could feel a smile growing across my face. Nobody ever had a nickname for me like that before.

Kairi grabbed my hand a brought me inside. He sat me down at the table and grabbed an icepack from the freezer. He also grabbed some bandages, and brought them over to me.

He rolled up my sleeve and put the icepack on my bruised wrist. I winced and he pulled the icepack off and looked at me with a concerned look.

E: "it's okay bubba."

Kai: "I thought Josh was bubba"

He giggled a little.

E: "well you care about me more than Josh does, soo.."

Kai: "Josh was just caught up in the moment. He still cares about you bubs."

E: "I guess so bubba."

Kai put the icepack back on my wrist and this time I only winced a little. He wrapped the icepack with the bandages so it would stay in place, kinda as if it was taped to my wrist.

I couldn't help but admire how gentle Kairi was. Even though we just met, I could feel a strong connection. He was just perfect in every way. Looks, personality, just everything.

Kai: "you wanna go now?"

E: "yea, but should I roll my sleeve back down?"

Kai: "it'll get wet if you do"

He chuckled and gave me that 'are-you-really-that-dumb' look.

I giggled a little and grabbed his hand and brought him outside.

As we walked to the clinic (while still holding hands), Kai asked me about California and moving. I answered all his questions and then I asked him some. I asked him about school, and about the boys. He said he goes to Passaic Valley and that the boys are like family to him.

We kept talking until we finally arrived at the small clinic, and went inside.
