~Chapter 1~

When I was younger, my best friend would often tell me stories. Stories about a planet that was full of many interesting creatures. Apparently there was a whole town owned by the mafia, a movie studio that two rival birds recorded in, a spooky forest with a ghost man who likes souls and also a very high up mountain land that you could only traverse by using grapple hooks on bunting. It was very odd, the world she explained but it was interesting nonetheless.

I remember how detailed her stories were, how she could describe the surrounding smells, temperatures and overall vibes of each location. Of course I never truly believed her. I was a few years older so I had grown out of the whole fantasy and fairytale stage. I was more interested in socialising and trying to grow up too fast.

Even now, my best friend still talks about the planet like it really exists. At one point she even tried to convince me she had travelled there on a spaceship herself even though she wasn't even a teenager yet? I don't know. It was very bizarre. At least she's a bit quieter about it now. Although, that's likely because of the amount of times I yelled at her to shut up about it.

Anyway, why am I thinking about this? Ah, right. I was filling out my final documents before I could legally fly the spaceship I had purchased. That's why I thought about the planet. Part of me wanted to find this planet, ask my friend for the location... the other part of me just wanted to forget the planet and focus on my future. The future where I have a well paying job transporting goods from one space station to the next.

Agh, stop thinking about the planet. Geez, (y/n). Think about something else. Um... waffles. Think about them!

I let out a sigh as I put down the papers in front of me. I then pushed myself up and out of my seat, pushing it in behind me and taking the papers off of the desk. I walked toward my filing cabinet and found my stash of envelopes. I picked out an A4 sized envelope and put the papers inside, sticking a stamp on once I was finished. I then made my way to the front door of my small apartment and put on some comfy sneakers and a fluffy coat to combat the cold winter air outside.

My footsteps were silent as I made my way downstairs toward the exit of the apartment building. Checking that nobody was entering the door as I reached it, I quite happily swung it open and made my way down the white covered path. The sound of snow crunching under my feet was very satisfying and I couldn't help but lose focus as I listened to it.

My focus returned when I saw the post office ahead of me. I pulled my coat tighter around me, whilst ensuring the envelope didn't crinkle and hurried toward the building. It was pretty dead which was unusual at this time of day but then I remembered that there was a big sporting event happening so most people would be out at the local stadium. I approached the person behind the desk, instantly recognising the girl behind it. "Ah, How's it going, Kaya?" I greeted happily.

Kaya, the young blonde girl looked up from her small game console and gave a nod. "Not bad. Not bad at all." She answered before taking the envelope from my hands. "Finally getting that ship of yours then?" She questioned as she set the envelope aside temporarily.

"Yeah. Almost done with everything. Just need those documents approved and I can fly wherever I want. It's a little exciting." I admitted with a smile.

"I'm happy for ya. Gran insists that I stay here on earth so I could never do that. Send me a post card, will ya?" She requested with a soft laugh.

"Of course. I promise!" I agree and step back a little. "Anyway, I should get going. Now that those documents are in your hands." I state with a wave. "See you later."

"See ya, (y/n)." Kaya also waved.

As I made my way home, I decided to take a slight detour and head for the shopping district. Most stores were closed during sports events but my favourite bookstore always remained open. I opened the door and a small jingle from the bell above me could be heard. I looked around and noticed quite quickly that the categories had been shifted around. With a bit of a groan, I attempted to find a particular category.

After a few minutes of awkwardly looking around, I find it and pick up the book I'd been looking for. I instantly made my way to the cashier. The short old man was quite happy to see me but was confused by my book choice. "That's odd. You usually buy more... mature books." He commented.

I nodded my head as I watched him scan the book and set up the card reader for me to pay. "Yeah. I guess I just wanted to read my favourite childhood story." I told him with an awkward laugh. "You know, for nostalgia?"

He appeared to understand but didn't say anything more until I was leaving, giving me a goodbye.

I looked at the book cover and shook my head, instantly regretting my purchase. It was a fairytale... A story about a princess with a dark heart who loves a prince but in a twisted way. She later stumbles across the prince speaking to another girl. Unaware that he was only speaking to said girl to purchase flowers for the princess, she runs home with a broken heart. The darkness in her heart grew and she became an evil monster. She held the prince captive in a dungeon, chained to the walls... Unfortunately that's where the story ends.

My best friend often told me that this was the story of the soul taking ghost thing on her weird planet. I liked it back then because I somewhat enjoyed the fairytale side of it at the start. However, now I'm more interested in the dark half of the story and the psycho obsession the princess has. I'd say 'enjoy the dark half' but I'm too old to actually enjoy a kids story.

Oh. I hadn't even noticed but I was now stood outside my apartment building again, right in front of the entrance door. I entered and headed up to my apartment, unlocking the door and walking inside. After closing the door, I walked toward the couch and collapsed onto it, reading the story to pass some time before I had dinner.

A/N: Hello reader! This is the first proper fanfiction I've written in 6 years! I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to leave some comments and stars! It would be highly appreciated.

I started this book as I've grown a big love for A Hat in Time after getting it for my switch at Christmas! I'm really interested in the main story as well as the stories in the background.

I hope this story is at least a little unique compared to other Snatcher x Reader stories as well as many fanfiction in general.

Anyway, bye for now!
