|~ Chapter Five

[PRESENT]

~ Mike Hayes ~

"No!!" Mike stated finally, after a long pause. "I shall not break this family apart! Maya and Aaron will never speak to me again, and I told Aaron I finished on the drugs just under a year ago!"

"Listen! You are in no fit state to argue back with Me or Him!!" Joe shoved Mike against the wall, "you will tell them tonight at dinner and then you can pay him the money and get on with your stupid life!!"

"Why are you doing this? I thought you were helping me pay him back!" Mike whined.

"I am doing this because he promised me half of your money, and I... I thought I would get Maya back!" Joe explained, his voice cracking at the end.

Joe shook his head, no more breaking down, and letting your guard down!

~ Maya Hayes ~

"You two, get you fucking arses downstairs!! NOW!!" Mike called from the bottom of the stairs.

"What do you want?" Maya asked when they were gathered in the kitchen, "And what is he doing here? You said it was family, he isn't family!"

"Shut up Maya, and listen for once in your life!" Mike scolded the teen. "Right... I am in a 10 grande debt! I haven't stopped with the drugs Aaron and I never stopped!"

"No wonder his Mum left you! You knew! You knew about some of this and didn't tell me!" Maya hit her brother's chest!

"Sorry May... I didn't want to hurt you even more!" Aaron started.

"Sorry what? I was the one who stayed by Mum when she was in her final month, you and that scumbag over there left, but you had the decency to come back to me!" Maya screamed.

As soon as the last word was out of her mouth, she was pinned against the wall, her dad's face inches away from hers. "Don't call me a scumbag Maya!" Slamming her against the wall he let go of her.

"Nothing to say about Mum?" Maya taunted, earning her a slap across the face.

~ Liam Taylor ~

"I fucking HATE you!!" Maya screamed as the front door opened, revealing her dad with a large suitcase and backpack.

"Maya! Please don't say that! Don't end it like this!!" Mike's voice cracked, barely above a whisper.

"Don't you DARE tell me what to do! You lost that right when you told me everything, when you didn't show up and Mum's funeral, and left her for her last month alive!" Maya stormed out the house blocking her Dad's way.

Liam watched in horror at the argument. How Aaron tried to comfort her and she stormed off into the middle of the road, with the car speeding...

SHIT!!

"MAYA!!" Liam screamed running into the middle of the road, slamming into Maya and the two teens fell on the pavement on the other side of the road.

Liam rolled off Maya, looking down at the teen his heart stopped.

Maya was laying unconscious on the floor, dried blood etched her forehead.

~ Joe Smith ~

Joe leaned against the wooden doorframe to Maya's room.

No-one saw him, he just watched as Aaron and Liam sit there watching her sleep, occasionally dapping a damp cloth on her forehead.

She had been out cold for almost twenty-four hours!

Why had I agreed to help Him? Look at her Joe, their Dad is goodness knows where and it is because of you, you tore this family apart! You chose the wrong person to deal with, He was never going to give you the money... It is just like the night you tried to rape her, only then you stopped, now... Now it might be too late!! You did this Joe!!

Joe wallowed himself in self pity, before he slammed the door shut along with the front door, letting the cold night brush its icy fingers over his bear arms.

[A FEW DAYS LATER]

~ Aaron Hayes ~

Aaron watched Maya sitting at the kitchen table. The first time she got up since the accident without feeling dizzy.

Maya was staring at a crumpled piece of off-white paper she held in her hands. He stood in the doorway and watched the silent tears run slowly down her pale face.

"May?" Aaron asked seeing his sister staring unfocused at the paper. Walking over he sat down next to her and took the paper from her loose grip and read.

Sorry that it has come to this. Sorry that I am having to do this, but he left me no choice! No choice what so ever. It is better than the other outcome that this could have had. I have done what I have had to do, to protect youz. I have done a runner back to Ireland and I'm lying low for a few years! Maybe forever! Like I have said, he left me no choice. I have emptied my bank account and paid him the money and took the rest so I could live in Ireland. Please do not try and follow me or speak to anyone about me. This is for your own safety as he could find out I have done a runner and well it could be bad for anyone of us as he could well... you know...

Please let Joe know that I said thank you for all his help with trying to help me pay the money back to who I owed it to and that know I have paid him the money.

Sorry... Goodbye...

Aaron could have punched his dad or his stupid step-brother Joe. He figured out why Joe had been abusing Maya (well trying to)?

His dad had told them everything! What type of person he owed money to, but not who. Why he was looking for extra jobs, and how long it had been going on for, that he was still on drugs. Everything!!

Well almost, he had left out the fact that he had asked Joe and not Maya or him!

And then he figured out that Joe had starting working for the crook, and not helping his Dad. Bastard!

And now their family had been ripped apart!

First; it was their Mum, who died!

Second; their dad turned into a junkie with a HUGE debt!

And almost Maya...

~ Him ~

1 Grande... 2 Grande... 3 Grande... 4 Grande...

He sat at the Mahogany desk in the large fine polished room, counting the money that Mike had given to him.

5 Grande... 6 Grande... 7 Grande...

He could smell the fresh money he had just been given an hour ago. He had tried to delay Mike giving him the money so he could count it there and then.

8 Grande... 9 Grande... '10 Grande??'

Where was the last Grande that Mike owed?

"BASTARD!!" He screamed overturning the desk and scattering the notes all over the floor.
