Part Three: Good Morning

Lisa was the first one up in the morning.

Bleary-eyed, she stumbled to the bathroom. Ten minutes later she bounded back out, fresh and bright-eyed. Linda was making pancakes for them after she'd lost a game of snakes and ladders last night, and Lisa wasn't about to miss out on a chance to skip making breakfast. She barged into the living-room where they had fallen asleep the night before with face-masks on while talking, and began shaking them awake.

'Wakey, wakey ladies, today is the day!'

Jennie sat up in a panic. 'What? What's happening? Are we filming today?

'No dummy, we're going shopping, remember? Now get up quickly so we can have pancakes and go.'

Rosé immediately sat up at the mention of pancakes and stumbled to the bathroom. Jisoo took more persuasion, but eventually she groaned and got up after Lisa threatened to kiss her. Linda, who was sprawled over a pile of blankets and pillows, was still sound asleep throughout the chaos. Lisa dropped next to her and yanked the blanket off her face.

'Good morning, sunshine!'

'Just a bit longer,' she mumbled, turning over and burying her head back under the blanket.

'Nope, I didn't let Jisoo sleep when she said that, and I'm not going to let you sleep either.' Lisa leaned over and tugged the blanket off her. Linda groaned. 'Have you forgotten what we're doing today?' Lisa asked, poking her back. 'Come on, we promised Jisoo pancakes. We have to hurry and make them before she starts complaining.'

'Oh yeah,' she yawned. 'Okey.' Linda slowly sat up and crossed her legs. Her hair resembled a haystack and there was a drool stain at the corner of her mouth.

Lisa laughed. 'Where's my phone when I need it?' She stood up. 'I'll meet you in the kitchen when you're done washing up.'

Linda lifted her head and blinked. 'Sure.' She caught sight of Jisoo hanging over the side of the bed, fast asleep again. 'Hey, why did you wake me up when she's still asleep? That's not fair!' she shook Jisoo's shoulder. 'Hey Jisu, wake up. I'm not getting up if you're still sleeping. Jisunnie. Jisoooo.' Jisoo pushed her hand away and went on sleeping.

'You two...' Lisa sighed. 'You're like babies.'

Half an hour later, they were assembled in the kitchen launching Project Pancake. Lisa managed to burn the batter both the first and second times and was demoted to helping Rosé set the table. She made a face at Linda, who laughed and continued stirring the pancake batter. Jisoo was sitting at the kitchen counter reading the pancake mix instructions out loud to nobody in particular.

'Okay, we're done.' Jennie said, untying her apron and coming around the counter to the breakfast table. 'You can just leave the dishes in the sink, we'll do them later.'

Without hesitation, Linda dropped the dirty dishes into the sink and slid into a chair next to Lisa.

'Should I use syrup or honey?' Rosé asked her, holding up the two bottles.

'Hmm, good question. What about this?' Linda lifted her pancake and spread one corner with honey, another with syrup, a third with whipped cream and strawberries, and the fourth (grinning devilishly) with chocolate. Satisfied with her handiwork, she rubbed her hands together and picked up her knife and fork.

Jisoo saw and laughed. 'You're so weird.'

'What? It's practical.'

'I agree,' Lisa said. 'That way you can try out all the ways of eating pancakes at the same time.'
