"Well, low populated is right. Ever since we crossed that little bridge a few miles back, I haven't seen a single car." Said Nate. That comment broke the semi-tense feeling everyone had in the bus.
"Yeah, my mom lives over here and I was thinking it would be kind of ideal given the current circumstances." Jo responded.
"So what now?" I asked. I mean it was a solid move to come out here, and we all knew that. Issue is that none of us really thought through what we were actually going to do here. Low-population is great, but I have never been here before. I'm sure the same goes for everyone here but Jo. Either way, nobody had any ideas so my question went unanswered.
"I don't mean to bother but I am kind of hungry." Said Bri, who had been sleeping with her head on Nates shoulder for at least the last hour.
"How could you even have an appetite right now?" Asked Tristan.
"There's a little plaza around the corner, we could all grab some food and get our thoughts in order there." Said Jo. This is honestly the most I had ever seen him talk before, Jo is that athlete who is great at what he does, but is also socially awkward to the max.
"Yeah, lets do that." I said. All you could really see when driving around here was just woods, left and right for miles and miles. It was both kind of peaceful and unsettling at the same time. This is the definition of the middle of no where.
"Call your mom and see if she doesn't mind us staying with her." I told Jo as the plaza he spoke of started entering sight.
He pulled out his phone and tapped a few times then held the phone up to his right ear. He quickly pulls down his phone with and obvious feeling of frustration based on the look of his face. He shook his head from left to right.
"Everybody, call someone. I don't care who. Just call someone." I say hoping that what I am thinking isn't what's happening.
"Nothing."
"Nada."
"It didn't even ring." Called out Max, and Tristan, then Bri.
"The cell towers are down, clearly. This virus is effecting everyone right now, don't worry guys. I'm sure they will get it back up soon, right?" Added Nate in an obvious attempt to keep everyone from going hysterical.
"I have to go see my mom and make sure she is okay." Said Jo.
"Yes, we will get to that." I say as I pull into the plaza and park the bus. Terribly parked might I add.
"No, we have to go to her first. Fast, just to see her. She has been sick lately and with all of this shit going on right now, I have to make sure she is fine." Added Jo, notably stressed.
"We will get to her, I promise. Just think of everyone man. Just calm down, she is probably doing just fine." I told him in a calm voice trying to calm him and defuse the potential issue that could have just happened. He looked around at everyone on the bus, took a deep breath in, and sighed.
"Can we at least hurry?" He said.
"Of course, let's go." I tell him as I open the doors of the bus.
We all get off the bus and walk towards the plaza. Not a soul was in sight, only a few parked cars here and there.
"Food time." Said Bri.
"Shut the fuck up!" Said... well you can guess who.
We walk into the main entrance of the plaza which connected to all the stores in the building from the inside.
