You would think the world wasn't going to shit based on how long I slept in on that roof. Wasn't a peaceful sleep by any means. My dreams haunted me constantly, I mean Jo is really gone. He really did die right before our eyes, and we didn't even know he was infected. He could've turned and killed someone else if it was too late. Like Tristan, or Nate, or Max, and I could never live with myself if anything happened to those three. That is my family, even before the apocalypse took a hold of humanity. I also can't stop thinking about Jeremiah, how we just left him. Did he face the same fate as Buck? Or maybe Jo? I don't know, and I guess I will never know either. My sister too, how is she? Back home, is she holding up well? I should've called her when I had the chance.
"Hey! you're up." Said Nate as he got up to the roof where I was. "You slept in pretty late man, how are you feeling?"
"I don't really have an answer for you man, I am still trying to find out for myself haha." I respond trying to stay out of my head and my feelings.
"Haley is gone." He said.
"Yeah, I know." I told him.
"You know? How? Did she talk to you about leaving?" He questioned.
"No, I just saw her go off into the woods last night." I told him while I pointed in the direction she left.
"So weird." He said.
"Not the biggest concern on my mind at all." I told him as we both walked to the stairs leading around to the back. I reached for the knob to open the door but Nate grabbed my arm and stopped me.
"Everyone is a little tense right now. I mean I am too, but just letting you know man." Nate told me to mentally prepare me. He let go of my arm and I opened the door and walked into the pharmacy. Nate closed the door behind us. I saw Tristan Laying down on the counter staring up at the ceiling. Max was squatted by the front window and Bri was right next to him, chatting up a storm. Very one sided conversation as you could imagine. The morale was extremely low out right now, felt clueless, and alone. That's how I felt at least. We have to do something though, to be safe, to make sure we survive this apocalypse.
"I know that yesterday was the worst day ever.... and everything seems to be going downhill. Jo died yesterday saving Bri's life, and he is the one who got us here. Lets not allow everything he did for us be in vein. Life is flying at a million miles an hour right now, and I have a feeling it won't let up. So it's our job to keep up, to stay strong, to stay together and survive. Treat everyday like its your last day on Earth, because... you never know if it is. For now, life goes on, and we have each other so lets get up and going. We need more weapons, at least one for all of us, and we could never have enough clean water." I tell them as I walk around in between them trying to create a spark of inspiration and motivation to drive them on. To start a fire within themselves.
"Fuck off!" says Tristan as he gets up from the counter and hops down. He starts walking my way and continues, "That red head bitch left last night and took half of our shit! Don't you see that nothing is getting better here?"
"Cool off, Tristan" Said Nate from behind me.
"Nah, let him talk." I said.
"See, I think we should find her, and get everything she stole back. You wouldn't happen to know where she went, would you?" He said implying that I knew. He was half right, I know the direction she went, but I am clueless as to her destination. Tristan targeting me really started to upset me.
"How would I know where the hell she went?" I asked him.
"I don't know. You guys clearly get along, ya know? Went out to the back together, always looking at each other. I am not fucking stupid cunt! She even mentioned you, right before she disappeared with a bunch of our shit!" He yelled out as he aggressively pressed his index finger to the center of my chest with every point he made. All of this was news to me, and also why the fuck does it matter to him if she mentions me.
