richard tozier wasn't normal, and that was a fact.
he never had anyone to talk to, unless it was the random kids in the hallway. he always wore bright colors and a stupid rainbow pin that hooked onto a certain flannel he wore that day. he refused to take it off, even if the other kids would give him weird looks and talk about him as he turned away.
he didn't care.
as long as he could just be himself, he didn't care.
you might not think it, but richard tozier did have a friend. he had several, in fact, but the only one even wanted anything to do with him. only that one person knew the obvious reason behind the colorful pin on his shirt.
it was bill denbrough.
he was the infamous boy who knew it all, who had spent more than a decade making silly theories and learning more about the trinket. he had spent eleven and a half years in fact, studying richie tozier and his possession. ever since kindergarten he spied on the black haired boy. he didn't want to harm richard, but only to further understand him.
everyone was oblivious to how bill denbrough was acting, except richie.
richie had noticed the strangeness that bill was giving off in 1st grade. it wasn't like he gave a shit, in fact, he liked to know that someone was trying to figure him out. it made him feel special. it made him feel as if one person in this fish bowl town cared for him.
both boys remember the first day they met. that day they didn't officially become friends, bit they met and talked a couple words face to face.
richard always had to ride the bus home from school. his parents never had the time to pick the energetic boy up; they were always too busy with their jobs.
fortunately, bill and richie had to ride the same bus. as richie placed his pale, small, freckled hands on the bus rails, he felt a finger lightly tapped his shoulder. richie looked behind him and giggled at the flustered boy now in front of his eyes. he turned himself towards the boy so he could get in a more comfortable position.
"i-i l-l-like your p-pin.." bill said as he pointed to the rainbow clinging onto richie. bill scratched the back of his neck softly, upset that his stutter had made him sound weak.
it made richie look down at himself, and helped him to realize the pride that held the hopefully onto him. he shot the pin a sweet grin before he lifted his face back up to meet the pair of blue eyes once more.
"well, thank you m'sir!" richie exclaimed happily as he playfully punched bill in the arm, resulting in bill rubbing soothing circles on his irritated skin.
the bus driver had signalled richie to get on the bus so everyone could get home on time. richie smirked and soluted the bus driver as he climbed up the steps. bill had attempted the same, but it had came off more wobbly and hesitant, he then quickly followed the boy in front of him.
