I wanted to beg... But I didn't.
It wasn't pride that stopped me. It was the futility of such action. If that could've helped matters, I would've done it in a heartbeat.
But the finality of our situation dawned on me, and it just got too hard to ignore.
I took of the ring from my finger. I wanted to reach out but the time of reckoning has arrived.
So I let the ring fall from my fingers.
This is it. This is my last goodbye.
I stepped out of his room, out of his house...
Out of his life, not once looking back.*
He punched the mirror in his wall. But it wasn't nearly enough to numb the pain.
Unceremoniously, he heaved the glass across the wall, shattering in tiny fragments.
As blood dripped from his hands onto his finger onto the floor, he looked at his room, bleak, but no bleaker than his empty future.
