Everybody was awake now and the bus had arrived at the Euro tunnel.
The teachers allowed the students to roam around as they needed to stretch their legs for a bit before they get back on and travel for another half an hour until they reach the chocolate factory in France. Tommy was stood near the front of the bus as he leaned back and stretched out his legs. On his right, his friend Harry stood next to him talking to Taylor.
Tommy looked around Kevin but hadn't seen him since he got off. He felt anxious, as this was the only time he could see Kevin until they get back on the bus for another tiring journey. After a while, he heard the delightful laughter of Kevin and a couple more people, as his laugh stood out the most. His walked over to the edge of the bus and looked towards the small gap between the wall and bus and saw Kevin there. His heart started to beat faster as he quickly shuffled towards him, his chest pressed against the side of the bus.
" So yeah Tommy- where the hell?" Harry looked around with a quizzical look.
" Maybe he's on the bus?" Said Taylor.
" Maybe, he would of told me, he's been like really quiet.. I dunno." He shrugged his shoulders and the two continued with their conversations.
Tommy was free from the tight shuffle and looked around desperatly for Kevin. He was in the corner talking to Kate, looking like they were in deep conversation. Tommy walked closer to them until he finally spoke.
" Hey Kevin.. hi Kate." He smiled but only looked at Kevin.
" Elloooo." Kevin said playfully. He ran his fingers through his hair and looked towards Kate.
" Hey Tommy." She said, smiling brightly and then crossed her arms.
Tommy blushed and twiddled his thumbs, struggling as to what to say. He opened his mouth but was then interrupted by Kevin.
" So..."
" Urm."
" So Tommy how did you sleep?" Kate yawned and broke Tommy's eye contact with Kevin.
" Didn't sleep really.. you?" Tommy looked down slightly, letting his hair cover part of his eyes, but behind his ginger hair his eyes darted to Kevin.
" Meh, it was okay, just enough to get me through the day."
" It felt like I was being watched, hahaaa." Kevin smiled and laughed childishly.
" Hm, funny." Kate's eyes darted towards Tommy as his eyes immediatly looked at Kevin, then at Kate.
They were all silent for a bit, but Tommy couldn't get his eyes off Kevin, admiring his slender body and the classy taste of clothing Kevin wears, as he was wearing a blue jumper over a blue collared shirt and jeans.
" This is awkward, somebody say something please." He leaned in, turning his head to the right, waiting for an answer.
" Sorry, just a bit tired."
" Get some sleep then." Kate said sternly. Tommy rolled his eyes, as he knew Kate obviously didn't want him around.
" I'll stay."
" Well not really, me and Kevin were talking before you butted in."
" Well sorry, didn't now I was such a bother." Tommy sighed and frowned at Kate.
" Kaaaate, don't be a meanie."
" I'm not a meanie, anyway Tommy, come back when me and Kevin are done talking." She turned her head to Kevin and rolled her eyes.
" Oh well alright then." He hesitated then slowly walked away, slightly upset as he couldn't talk or be Kevin's company. He walked over to the corner and looked among the others but dared not to look towards Kevin as he was afraid that Kate would be still staring.
He listened in to their conversation as best as he could. Pretending to put his earphones in so Kate wouldn't be suspicious. Tucking his hands into the pockets of his black hoody, he listened carefully, wondering why Kate or Kevin wanted to talk so badly, and about what exactly? Tommy got a feeling in his stomach and his brain was mixed with different conclusions.
Does Kate hate me? Does Kevin hate me? Does Kate love Kevin back...?
Is Kevin asking her out?
He gulped and took a deep breathe. His heart pounded and his hair stuck to his face. He listened in some more, his hands turning into fists into his pocket. Slowly. Ever so slowly did he creep closer to them, wanting to listen to them. Wanting his twisted conclusions to go away. He listened.
" Urm Kate."
" Yeah? What's up?"
" Urm.. there's something I needed to tell you, and to be honest I don't know how to say it."
" Go on." Kate leaned closer to Kevin, raising her eyebrow.
" Well, you see.. how can I say it... well.. listen urm.." He stuttered.
" Go on."
" What I'm trying to say is..."
" Yeeess?"
Tommy's heart raced as he waited for Kevin's answer, breathing heavily.
" I like you Kate, I like you a lot." He smiled slightly and looked away blushing.
Kate gasped.
" Oh."
" Yeah..."
Even though Tommy already knew, the heartbreak of his confession was too much.
" Kevin."
" Yeah?"
" It's... it's so sweet that you like me that way. But I can't go out with you sorry."
" W-what why?" Kevin's eyes widened and heartache and disapointment was shown in his almost black eyes.
Tommy felt a strong wave of relief. The pounding feeling in his chest had gone away, but he didn't like seeing Kevin like this, but in a way he was glad that Kate turned him down.
" I only see us as friends, best friends. I'm sorry." Kate walked away as somebody called her over, leaving Kevin distraught. Tommy slowly walked over to him, seeing the sadness in his eyes.
" Hey you alright?"
"No, I've just been turned down by the girl I loved. I adore her. I've been with her for so long and have hid away my love for her. It's messed up, I feel like shit." He sighed deeply, Tommy's relief had shattered slightly.
" Maybe you'll get over her?"
" Nah, not gonna happen."
"Oh. well, I'm here if you wanna talk."
" Thanks." He said without hardly opening his mouth.
Tommy remained with the heartbroken Kevin until they finally had to get back on the bus. Tommy still had to be patient, but his desperation hadn't left him.
