The bus was roaring with laughter and continous conversations.
Everybody from the school was on a trip to France and Belgium for three days, and even though it was going to be a six hour coach journey to the Euro tunnel, everybody had a rush of excitement and ecstasy. Unlike some, only a small handful of people got some shut eye, but only for a while.
Unlike our two protagonists, both different in their own way. Tommy was almost silent, but the other, Kevin, was the complete opposite.
Tommy couldn't stop thinking about him, though he hides his obsession over him. Kevin was his world to him, the light in his darkness, the one who Cupid fired his arrow to. But as quiet as he was, how could he ever tell him? Becides, Kevin liked Kate, so how could Tommy tell him of his love for him anyway? It was complicated, but Tommy was used to it.
Tommy looked out of the window, even though it was two o clock in the morning, he gazed at the city lights in the distance, while Kevin was raging on with laughter, following by the others. Tommy was sat two rows away from Kevin, as he was on the left and Tommy on the right. Even though he wasn't exactly far away, Tommy felt like he was miles away from Kevin, making him desperate, as Kevin's voice was Tommy's only comfort while thinking of him.
Harry, who was sitting next to Tommy, noticed Tommy's silence and nudged him.
" You alright?" Harry said in a concerned tone.
" Yeah I'm fine, just bored, tired, that's about it really." Tommy sighed and turned his head to look out out of the window again. Harry looked at him for a short while but then quickly turned his attention to the rest of the boisterous teens.
The bus was then silent, which was relief to some of the teachers as they too fell asleep. But Tommy was the only one awake, wide awake, still thinking of Kevin. He took off his seatbelt and rose up from his seat slowly, trying not to knock Harry who was in a deep sleep. As was everybody else. He creeped over to the toilet and went inside, putting the seat up and did his business. He looked in the mirror and ran his fingers through his long ginger hair, sweeping it away from his pale, freckled face. His cheeks were flushed, as it was quite warm on the coach and he hadn't had much space. Tommy wiped his forehead and snapped the sweat from his finger, looking into the mirror again and sighed deeply.
" This is so boring." He scoffed, exiting the small bathroom and creeped slowly and steadily up the small flight of stairs. Tommy was about to head back to his seat but a small glimpse of Kevin's face caught his eye. He froze and stared. This was the first time in hours that he saw Kevin, well half of his face, he wanted to see all of it. Tommy tiptoed over to Kevin's seat, trying to to either wake up the teachers or attract the attention of the driver. Tommy looked over to Kevin's seat and saw him sleeping peacefully, his glasses slightly drooping from his face, he chuckled and was finally aside of Kevin. Staring down onto him, his heart rate suddenly beat faster and a spark of happiness came over him. Kevin snored softly, hugging his small pillow close to him, this Tommy finding rather cute. Too bad Kevin wasn't in a room with him, and Tommy could be Kevin's pillow.
Tommy continued to stare down at Kevin. He leaned closer to him, feeling Kevin's breathe on his face. Kevin shuffled and Tommy drew back, thinking Kevin was waking up, but to his relief he didn't. He leaned in again, placing his hand on Kevin's small pillow. He stared, admiring Kevin's features. His slanted eyes, his smooth skin, everything about Kevin was perfect for Tommy. He blushed, unaware that Kate who was sat next to Kevin, started to wake up.
She yawned, stretching out her legs and widened her eyes. Turning on her side, realising the reflection of Tommy in the window. She quickly turned over and Tommy immediatly reacted.
" Tommy? What.. what are you doing?" She yawned and adjusted her eyes.
" Couldn't sleep.. thought somebody was awake." He whispered and looked around, making sure nobody heard the two.
" So.. you wandered around the bus then?"
" No, I went to the toilet first, then I thought somebody would of been awake."
" Why was Kevin first on the list?"
He hesitated then finally spoke.
" Dunno, just came to mind. I..I better get back to my seat then." He hurried along and sat down, embaressed, he buried his face on the front seat. He sighed deeply and leaned back, looking up at the ceiling. He reached up and turned on the air conditioning, letting the cool breathe flow onto his pale face. Looking once again outside of the window, he wished that he could of spent longer with his love, or for him just to simply sit next to him. Just the company of Kevin would make him feel better, just the thought of Kevin being closer to him made Tommy feel warm inside.
Tommy wanted him and Kevin to be more than friends, more than best friends in fact. But for his and Kevin's age, and having a liking towards boys it was complicated. He just needed to be patient, which was like an almost impossible thing to do. He was desperate, he needed Kevin. He needed him now.
After a while, Tommy soon fell asleep. He wish he could never wake up, as his dream was about Kevin. Just him and Kevin.
