~Japer Quinn~
Elanor woke with a start, sitting up and hitting her head on one of the long black posts of her bed. She rubbed the spot on her head and let out a groan. Sounds of the other girls getting ready for the day surrounded her, and Elanor, deciding she could no longer postpone the inevitable, flung her curtains open. "Good morning, Elanor", Emma Vanity called from across the room, pulling on a pair of white wedges, "Didn't get to see you after the feast last night".
Elanor put on her best smile and turned toward her, "I was pretty tired", she shrugged. "Fair", Emma said and turning to the three girls hovering around her said, "Ready?". They let out various replies of compliance and the group moved toward the door. "I'll catch you later, Elanor", she called, and with a flick of her long brown hair, they were gone.
Emma Vanity, Charity Jennings, Georgia McAllen, and Ophelia Collins were not exactly the type of girls that Elanor usually chose to be around. There was nothing inherently wrong with them, but their judgmental air and love of gossip separated them from Elanor. Their favorite topics of conversation were which boys looked best, which girls looked worst, and how they could get with one of those boys and not become one of those girls.
Emma Vanity had a sort of unspoken agreement with Elanor, they respected each other and left each other to their own devices. The rest of the girls did whatever Emma said, so they refrained from being too hostile towards Elanor. Their situation didn't bother her in the slightest, as she would much rather speak to people who cared about less superficial things.
Elanor smiled to herself, flicking her wand at her truck, the top swinging open. She dug through her various positions, until she reached the bottom. Gingerly she removed the various rolled up clothes around her precious record player. Levitating out of her trunk and onto her bedside table, she pulled out a record. It was Queen, her favorite muggle band. When the Muggle Studies professor had taught them about devices that could play music by spinning a large black disk, Elanor was so intrigued she didn't stop talking about it until one day, her parents surprised her with the best birthday present she had ever received. They even enchanted it so it wouldn't malfunction while on the Hogwarts grounds.
In Elanor's opinion, this record player was far more magical than any other thing she owned. She hummed along to the music and she began to get dressed, pulling up her black stockings and slipping on her black combat boots. She tied her Slytherin tie loosely and slipped the long black robe on, pulling half of her hair up so it sat on her head in a ponytail, the other half falling down her back. Grabbing her book bag, she was out the door.
When she reached the Transfiguration classroom, it was already packed with students. Her eyes scanned the room for Jasper. She wished that Kate had been born one year later so they could have class together, but at least there was the silver lining that Elanor was gifted with Kate's old notes, especially helpful during OWL season.
A paper airplane zoomed across the room and hit Elanor between the eyes. She looked in the direction it had flown, and she was met with the sight of a laughing Jasper. "Very mature", she said in a flat tone when she reached the desk one row from the back. "I know right", Jasper retorted. The back rows as well as the one to her right were taken up by several students all in the red robes of Gryffindor, and to Elanor's surprise, the red haired girl from the train. Catching her eyes, Elanor waved. A smile spread on the girl's face, what was her name again, Daisy?, Elanor thought to herself.
"I didn't know you were in this class!", the girl leaned across the small gap between the desks. Rosier glanced back at her from the desk in front of them, then turned to the boys sitting next to him and began to whisper. Elanor narrowed her eyes in his direction but chose to bite her tongue. "Yeah", Elanor replied, "Glad to see another friendly face".
"Lily!", one of the Gryffindors, who Elanor realized was James Potter, called. The girl turned her head toward Potter and smiled sheepishly at Elanor who let out, "We can catch up later". When she shifted back in her seat, Jasper sat with his eyebrows raised. "Since when did you get so chummy with the Gryffindors?".
Elanor dug in her pocket, then finding the peppermint she was searching for, popped it in her mouth. "I'm not chummy with any of them", then seeing Jasper's continued look of disbelief, "I ran into Lily on the train, literally. She seems nice". Japers just shook his head, his long waves falling in his face. "Get over yourself, Jas", she said, throwing her arm around him and pulling his head down so she could ruffle his hair, "Stop being so judgemental of people before you even know them".
Jasper's cheeks flushed under her arms and his heartbeat increased. There was just something about Elanor Kensington that he couldn't seem to shake. He wasn't sure if it was the double meaning behind everything she said or her need to have a peppermint in her mouth at all times that made it so she always smelled of one. Elanor's skin always seemed to glow, and her hair fell in perfect golden waves. Her long eyelashes curled up, making her wide eyes seem even bigger.
Jasper couldn't help but notice her effervescent beauty, and it was abundantly clear that he was very in love with her. Elanor was blissfully unaware of his feelings for her, and she spent little time thinking about falling in love. "Shove off", Jasper rolled his eyes, pushing her off. He cursed himself for the blush on his face. Elanor just threw her head back, laughing jovially.
Sirius Black watched the interaction between the two sitting in front of him. He had never given much thought to Elanor Kensington before and he knew very little about her and he didn't have much interest in learning more. She was a very pretty girl, Sirius would be lying to deny that fact, but she was not only in Slytherin, but a Kensington. And from the looks of it, she was close with a Quinn. Both were well known pureblood families, which Sirius wanted to distance himself from. He had enough of that at home, he didn't need more of the prejudice at school. Sirius leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes, dozing off as the sounds of class reverberated around him.
