My eyes open to a white room. I lean up slowly and glance around the hospital room. Carefully swinging my legs over the side of the bed, I shakily change out of my hospital gown into black pants and a gray sweater. I push open the door and Haymitch sighs.
"There she is," He embraces me and I turn to Plutarch Heavensbee.
"Long time no see," I comment, giving him a slight nod of the head. He chuckles.
"Took you long enough to figure out the clock," He grins and I shrug. I turn to Finnick.
"Hey," I say softly. He finally looks up at me and his eyes widen in shock.
"What happened to your eyebrow? He asks. I turn and walk over to a mirror and my stomach sinks. A ragged scar cut's through my right eyebrow, the tissue still red and tender.
"What happened?" I ask, reaching up to touch it.
"You mean you don't remember trying to stab me once I brought you on?" Johanna asks behind me. I walk over and hug her. As I pull back she shoots me a cautious glance.
"Why did I try to stab you?" I ask. She glances back at the guys and shakes her head.
"It's nothing," She says quietly.
"Where's Beetee and Cato?" The room drops.
"Beetee is in the cockpit, helping the pilot," Plutarch answers.
"And Cato?" I ask. Johanna glances back at Haymitch. He, in turn, looks at Finnick. Finnick looks down at the floor.
"Fin?" I ask softly. He shakes his head.
"They got him. He's at the Capitol," He says softly. I narrow my eyes at Finnick slowly, the realization of what that means sinking in.
I take a single step before exploding. My hands are at Finnick's neck in a flash, scratching and trying to hurt him. He doesn't even flinch, just stands there. I notice the tears streaming down my face as they turn to sobs. His arms wrap around me as I sink to the ground.
I get off the ship and enter the gray and black world that is District 13. I straighten my back and tilt my chin. I can't let my guard down here.
"Ash!" I turn to my left as Gale crushes me in a hug. He finally releases me but before I can move, Katniss hugs me as well.
"What are you guys doing here?" I ask as I pull away. They cast a side glance at each other.
"District 12 was bombed, Ash. We all had to come here," My heart sinks.
"Guys, I'm so sorry!" I hug Katniss again. "Was everyone okay?" Katniss lowers her gaze.
"Pretty much," She mumbles.
"What do you mean pretty much? Where's Mina? Is she okay?" The questions quickly fall. Katniss turns away from me and Gale steps forward. I feel Haymitch lay a hand on my shoulder and Finnick comes to my other one.
"Ashlynn," Gale's mouth moves but I can't hear anything. Finnick rushes to catch me as I crash to the ground.
"Ashlynn, Mina was never found."
