The next day I was in the kitchen and was making me lunch. It was 12PM. Usually I'd still lay in bed or watch Netflix but I couldn't really sleep that long. I hurried to get into the bathroom this morning because I wasn't sure when Tyler would need it and I really didn't want to confront the stranger I was living with. I looked out of the kitchen window to check if he was even there. The car was still standing in front of the garage. I sighed. Couldn't he just work or something? Then I'd be alone again and I could do whatever I want without feeling as if someone is watching me the whole time. I was appreciating this alone time. I got myself two slices of bread and started making myself a sandwich. In the background I heard the TV. Some stupid reality show was running.
Tyler (from behind): "You know, I actually didn't agree to you and your mother moving in. But now that you're here and making me a sandwich I couldn't be happier."
I almost choked on my own spit. When did he get here? How was he so quiet? I started to process what he just said. He didn't agree to this? Was it maybe because of his mother? After all she died a few years ago. I totally forgot about that. "He is your stepbrother.", I remind myself. Maybe I should try to be nice. I turn around to face him. He was wearing grey sweatpants and a white shirt. His hair was a total mess. You could see that he just got out of bed. That made him even more attractive to me though.
"Look, I'm sorry. I didn't know that you haven't agreed to this. But trust me when I say that my mother is happy with you dad and it's probably the other way around, too. So maybe you should just let them be? My mother is not here to replace your mother or anything like that, you know—"
He interrupted me immediately and looked furious.
Tyler: "Shut the fuck up. You don't have the right to talk about my mother or anything that's going on in this household."
He came closer to me and grabbed my face. I could feel his breath on my face. He smelled like tooth paste.
Tyler: "We don't talk about her. Especially not you. Do you understand?"
He released my face out of his grip and snatched the sandwich out of my hand. Then he disappeared and I just stood there, frozen for some time. I didn't know how much time has passed when I came back to my senses. I shook my head. My heart was pounding really fast and that wasn't because of Tyler's attractiveness. It was because I was scared. I wasn't expecting anything like this. This guy had obviously some kind of bottled up aggression or emotions in general. Maybe the death of his mother was still bothering him? Of course it was, I tell myself and shook my head. Just now I noticed that he stole my sandwich and I had to make another one. I sighed.
I haven't seen Tyler for a few days now and that was weird because we were living in the same house. We were even sharing the same bathroom. I wasn't really sad that we haven't seen each other since that incident in the kitchen. He stilled owed me a sandwich. I didn't know that guy, I had to admit that. But from what I've seen he seemed to be a total dickhead. I spent the last few days hanging out with Katy and Kyle, mostly at their house. That was probably one of the reasons why I don't really see Tyler. I was brushing my teeth in front of the mirror when Tyler stumbled into the bathroom. I forgot to lock the door apparently. Annoyed I rubbed my forehead and prepared myself for one of his mean comments. He had a hiccup. At first he didn't notice I was there but once I spit into the sink he noticed me. He looked at me for a few seconds and then ran to the toilet. He got on his knees and threw up. He puked his soul out. Some puke got on his shirt. What the fuck was that guy doing? I got closer to him and smelled alcohol. It reminded me too much of my biological father. It took my breath away. I had to get my act together.
"Dude, you okay?"
Tyler (mumbling): "What do you—"
He threw up again.
"Do you need help?"
He stared at me blankly and then started to take his shirt off.
Tyler (mumbling) : "I just want to sleep."
He tumbled out of the bathroom into his room while taking his pants off. I put my hands to my hips. Who was going to clean this shit? Chances were that it was me who was going to clean this. I sighed and rubbed my eyes. It was already 1 AM and tomorrow I'd go to another festival with Katy and Kyle. I needed my beauty sleep.
"At least brush your teeth and take a shower, you prick."
I pulled him back into the bathroom as well as I could. His arm was very muscular, I thought to myself. This guy was so masculine in general. I gulped and pushed him into the shower. I splashed him with ice cold water. What was I even doing? Tyler wasn't my responsibility. The bathroom was though. At least that's what I was telling myself.
Maybe some medicine would help. I walked downstairs into the kitchen just to find a stranger kissing another guy next to the fridge. Holy shit! What was going on?"Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my house?"
