Homework...?

Another day for Virgil filling out orders, getting yelled at by customers, and regretting his life decisions. He walked into the break room, sighing and flinging his cap onto the table. Grabbing his phone from his back pocket (which he wasn't supposed to have), lifting it up to his face to see a black screen. He tried to click the power button on a few times. Groaning, he put his phone down right next to the disgusting hat. Sitting in silence for a few seconds he immediately jumped right back up. Placing his phone in his locker and hat right back on his head.

Walking back to the counter where it is said to exchange a piece of paper for an item of choice. Where Virgil stood back on the clock, taking orders. Soon a he recognized as a regular, Princey. Virgil readied himself, he knew what the annoying one was going to order, a complicated one at that.

"Hello welcome to ABCafé, my name is Virgil how may I help you?" he replied with monotone voice.

"Ah! My favorite barista, the vampire." he said with sarcasm dripping from his voice.

"Coming from you Ramen, what's your monstrous order this time?" Virgil sighed.

"One time a barista didn't hear your name correctly and this happens. Can I get a espresso with 5 pumps of vanilla, extra espresso shot, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and 2 things of half and half creamer." Roman said. Virgil thought he was going to die of diabetes before 50, not that he would tell him.

"That will be $4.56," being handed the debit card Roman always uses "your order will be out in 5 minutes."

"Thanks emo." He waved walking away from the counter.

"No problem, Sir-Sing-A-Lot."

"Thanks I like that nickname." Virgil sighed done with life again. He wrote a quick 'gay theater nerd' on the cup and set it down. Looking at the time he told everyone he was going on his lunch break. Everyone responded with a quick nod. Going to the back room he put the annoying hat and apron in his locker. Making his way across the street to the SUBmarine where he always gets lunch from.

Checking to see if anyone was following him, which he decided that nobody was at the moment, he stayed at the light and pressed the button to cross. He groaned instantly remembering that he left his phone in his locker and that he needed it charged or fixed. The electronic beeping on his side to signal walking started. Looking both ways for any oncoming cars he started walking. He noticed the walking sign said fifteen (15) seconds left. He hurried a bit more since he was in the middle of the road, not a fun area to be in. Getting to the shopping area across the street from his own place of work. He walked to his favorite sandwich shop.

Entering he noticed the new employee. He honestly didn't care who they were just getting his food was enough. Looking around he noticed the new additions to the walls. The occasional squid, clown-fish, and also angler-fish. A new fish was added although he personally couldn't recognize,  he still didn't care.

Going into the line to order he stood for a small while. He was bored out of his mind wanting to check his phone, then once again noticing he didn't have it. It was his turn to order. He looked at the employee since he looked somewhat familiar. He couldn't put name to face very well so he looked down at the name tag it read, 'Patton'. He looked up at the face once again then he remembered.

"Oh! You're the guy at the coffee shop yesterday!" Patton exclaimed.

"Yup, I have to get to work soon. Can I get the white bread, black forest ham and american cheese. Toasted." He pulled out his debit card, once Patton put the bread in the weird oven.

"So... you come here often?"

"Yeah." The silence continued until the oven beeped telling Patton that it was done.

"What kind of toppings?"

"Can I get lettuce and tomato" he said picking at his nails. Looking at the shortness of his chewed nails. He hated that anxious habit. Patton quickly rang him up, smiling at him like he was a small dog that was cuddling him.

"That will be $4.20, cash or card?" Patton didn't pay attention to the amount. Virgil gave a quick snort and handed Patton his card. The amount charged never gets old, even as an adult.

"How was your homework?" Virgil said trying to strike up a conversation.

"I finished it this morning, it's due in a week or so"

"Damn, you remind me of Logan. He's such a nerd."

"I'm not a nerd! I'm just responsible!"

"Sure, and I'm not a barista." Patton puffed out his cheeks. Virgil had a weird urge to poke them, not that he would admit that to anyone. Grabbing his card then placing in his pocket, he turned away and sat at one of the tables. Thinking he should have grabbed a drink asking for one now would make him seem like a smooth brain. So, he didn't. The constant of consuming the sandwich made his anxiety calm a bit more. The idea of living in a world on repeat made him a little more anxious. He was glad he could afford the sandwich working on a paycheck like his.  Halfway he looked at the clock noticing he should get going. Packing up the sandwich he stuffed it in his jacket pocket. He grimaced a small bit. He was going to have to wash the hoodie a lot sooner then on laundry day.

"Hey wait!" He turned around to see Patton just behind him. To say Virgil was startled was an overstatement, he only flinched a little.

"Can I walk with you? It's my break anyways." Patton asked.

"Sure" Virgil uttered. Patton's smile lit up the room, was he a god of the sun? He quickly put a stop to that. Patton quickly went to the back and what Virgil assumed took of his work gear. Patton walked out a few minutes later free from anything work related and

"Ready to go?" Patton smiled.

Anywho! That's all I feel like writing for now. Sorry for a weird chapter ending. I don't want this romance to go fast. I just feel like yeah there can be love at first sight but, relationships take time to develop fully. Along the way you (hopefully) never end up like Romeo and Juliet, even though Juliet was a minor (gross).

Have a wonderful day! ~Ashton
