Tuesday, April 12 ~ Morning

Walking into school Natsuki sighed as she carried her umbrella on another rainy morning. "Is the rain ever going to clear up this week?" She muttered. Walking into class she sat down next to Akira, sending him a nod as a greeting. He nodded back as the bells rang throughout the hallways to signal the start of class.

Natsuki got out her notebook as the social studies teacher, Mr. Ushimaru walked in. "Hmph.. you all look like you've been spoiled growing up. Can't wait to see who disappoints me the most this year." Natsuki narrowed her eyes in disbelief at her teacher's words.

"A certain dictionary defines a year as 'a period of 365 disappointments.' The book's title is about as cynically satirical as the rest of it. It's 'The Devil's Dictionary.' by Ambrose Bierce." Mr. Ushimaru said as he looked around the room pondering what student to call on when his eyes fell on the new kid.

"Hey, new kid. Whats you're name?" He asked before looking on the roster, "Akira Kurusu, tell me what the Devil's Dictionary defined as the chief factor in the progress of the human race."

Akira paused for a few seconds before remembering the answer, "Villians."

Natsuki hummed, impressed that he knew the answer to a question she couldn't even understand. The Devil's Dictionary wasn't in her notes, she sighed at the thought of needing to study more. "Correct. 'Malefactors,' to be specific." Mr. Ushimaru nodded, impressed. "You actually knew that, huh?" he lightly mocked.

"Sure, villains can affect the course of history. But remember that this definition is a sardonic witticism, nothing more. Here in the real world, villains don't push humanity forward. All they do is spread chaos and strife." Mr. Ushimaru finished.
