Chapter 16: The Date, Part 3

Friday, February 26, 1999
The coffee shop 11:15

*Raven POV*

Wanting to make her feel better, I thought quickly about something that could cheer her up. I stood from the table and held my hand out to help her up. "Come on. I have an idea."

She looked a little suspicious, but realized I was trying to cheer us both up. She grabbed my hand and let me help her up. We both grabbed our trash, threw it away, and headed towards the door.

I opened the door and held it open for Jinx. Bowing dramatically at the waist, I said, "your highness."

She giggled, and played along. "Why thank you, my fair knight."

Hearing her call me 'her knight' brought a blush to my face and made a slight, happy, shiver go down my spine. I held my elbow out and asked, "May I guide you to your steed, Princess?"

"Of course. Lead the way, Sir Raven."

I walked her to the alley where my Yamaha was parked.

"No way!" Jinx exclaimed, while looking at the motorcycle. "That's the 1993 Yamaha GTS1000, right? They stopped selling them after only two years due to the lack of buyer interest. A totally underrated ride."

"I'm glad you think so, because I agree with you. You ready to hop on?"

"Ya, but you're driving, this thing's a demon." She paused for a second and I could feel the amusement rising in her. "How fitting," she jokes.

"Oh. Ha. Ha. A demon for a demon. Haven't heard that one before." I stated, my tone saturated in sarcasm. But a smile in the corner of my mouth still showed.

I hop on the bike first. Jinx hopping on behind me, her arms wrapping around my waist.

"Safety first," I say as I pull an extra helmet from the same pocket dimension I had stored my own in. She puts it on, securing it. I the pull my own out and put it on, then pull out my keys and close the small portal.

I start the bike after Jinx wraps her arms around me and off we go. Going down a few streets, turning here and there, we quickly arrive at a nice sized sandwich shop, where we grab some lunch.

I order a sandwich with turkey and Swiss with mayo, mustard, lettuce, and tomato. Jinx ordered a much more complicated sandwich of Salami, pepperoni, and provolone with lettuce, pickle, mayo, chipotle, oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper. We both got a bag of chips and a water.

I payed for it, though Jinx tried to argue until I opened the thought path again to say 'I asked you out, I can pay for lunch. Besides I have plenty, it's not a big deal. You can pay next time if you'd like.'

'So there will be a next time, huh?' Jinx asks, making me a little embarrassed for assuming.

'I know we're not quite done with this one yet, but I'd very much like for there to be another one,' I think back at her, doing my best to be open and honest.

'Me too,' is all she replies. We're both smiling as we grab our food and drinks from the cashier.

We left the shop and went back to my bike. I put our food and waters in another pocket dimension, where time moved much slower, in order to keep our food fresh, and off we were again.

With our thoughts still linked I asked 'Is it okay that I take us through a portal? I want to take you somewhere special, but I want to make sure you're okay with teleporting first.'

I could feel the unease coming from her at the thought of not knowing where we are going. I guess she's deciding to trust me, though, because she thinks back, 'It's okay. Let's go.' Rather short and to the point, for her, but I'll take it.
