The Project

Chapter 1

"Thank you Mr.Miller, I will handle this new position with caution and pride!"

I'm Elise. I works at a newly opened plant that works on new inventions. I just turned 19 and finished college when I was 17. All my life I have invented things that helped around the house. I haven't had time for things such as love or a lot of friends but I promised I would get out and meet someone after getting the promotion to operate the newest project. The DreamWorks Division.

"I hope so. You have worked long, hard, sleepless nights it seemed like the right time to do this." Mr.Miller proclaimed.

The day went on and she closed up for the end of the shift. After work I go back to my house and watch t.v. before bed. I fall asleep pretty early.

The next morning I find myself getting ready but before I leave, I realize how empty my house feels. I haven't thought about this before because I've been working towards the promotion since I moved in. I've decided it's best to get back in the romance of life after work.

I arrive to work ready to start the day. Im saying hey to coworkers and makes it through the day pretty well. I orders takeout for lunch and eats in the plants cafeteria. As I'm eating I'm met with a scare that will make anyone jump.

My friend, Alydia. She sits down next to me and makes small talk while stealing her food.

"My boyfriend just proposed to me last night!! He says during the honeymoon we can finally try for a baby!"

Alydia has been dating this boy for 4 months. He doesn't seem like a bad guy but for me it's way too soon to be talking about marriage much less children.

"I'm so proud for you, but isn't it a bit too soon?"

I hesitated while asking and she looked confused then stated,

"Too soon?? Elise-honey, noo. You wouldn't understand.. you haven't had a relationship or even sex in how long?"

I blush and look away to finish my meal. Then I respond quietly,

"I'm a virgin, Alydia.."

She had the look of someone who just saw a murder. I almost immediately regretted what I said. This conversation lasted forever.

*end of the day* -10:07pm-

As I'm closing up the office I download a dating app on my phone. I'm walking down the hallway that seems to go on forever and a light from behind one of the doors shine through. I'm usually pretty nosey so of course I had to see where the light was coming from.

I peek my head through the door slightly then I close it behind me.

"Hello?"

Nobody seems to be in here but It's too quiet in here for my liking. The object on the desk that shined through the door was a small cube. I wonder what it does and look around for clues. Nothing.

I go to pick up the cube but it shines brighter causing me to drop the cube and the cup of water on the desk. The water and cube meet on the floor and the cube turns into a portal.

"Oh hell no."

I hide behind the desk waiting for zombies or aliens to walk out of the portal but nothing happens. I slowly stand up from behind the desk and head toward the portal. Its incredibly stupid to just, walk into any random portal but I feel drawn to it. As I'm faced with the portal in front of me I stick my hand in and out of it.

"Good, I still have my hand.. now the fun part."

I slowly walk into the portal.
