Heartbreak and Healing

I left school feeling sad and gloomy. I can't believe Mike would yell at me like that and call me stupid. He never cared about who I dated until now; I wanted to focus on my studies, but I can also date. It was as if his demeanor wholly changed since Peter and I started dating. What was it about Peter that he didn't like?
Mike and I have been friends since we were kids. He reminded me of a big brother that I've always wanted even though we're the same age. We were always there for each other, but he decided to throw it all away because I started dating someone. That was the worst slap in the face I've ever had.
Peter drove me home from school and constantly made sure I was okay. He even held me close in a hug while I cried. "If he can sleep at night knowing he made you cry, then he's not worth it." "We've been friends for ten years. I don't know why he's acting like this." I sniffed and wiped my eyes. "I'm so sorry, Hannah. You don't deserve any of this." He kissed me on the forehead and stroked my hair. It's as if all my sadness seemed to fade away as he did so. "I'll see you tomorrow." He said, ruffling my hair. I smiled. "I don't want you to go right now." "As you wish, love. I'm here for you." he smiled his handsome smile.

I unlocked the front door to my house, and we walked into the living room. We did homework, practiced our songs for the musical, and we were watching Roman Holiday. My mom made us cookies for the movie. The entire time he was constantly making sure I was happy, and I was.

"How is it that you knew what to do to make me feel better?" I asked with a content smile.

"Because I pay attention to you. You're an exciting person." His green eyes seemed to be smiling at me.

"I'm not that interesting," I said, blushing.

I got up from the couch and took the movie out of the DVD player as soon as the credits stopped rolling. "Of course you are. I like you, and you need to be kinder to yourself."

He put his arms around me in a hug. I couldn't help but smile. It was impossible to stay sad around him. I hugged him back, and he picked me up and spun me around! I felt like a Disney princess! I was laughing like a little girl because I was so happy. When he put me back down, I kissed him. "Where have you been all my life?" "I should ask the same for you." He gently kissed me back.

When it came time for Peter to head back to his house, I felt much better after the awful day I had at school. I sat at the kitchen table reading my script to pass the time. Mom came to the table to check on me. "You feeling better?" I looked up from my script for the musical.

"Yes. I'm fine." "Seems like Peter did the trick in making you feel better. He's a good guy." Mom said approvingly. I smiled awkwardly. "Yeah, I feel like the luckiest girl in the whole world!" My mom laughed, "I'm glad you're happy."

"Thanks, Mom; it seems like he knew what to do to make me feel better," I said happily. "That's how you know he's a keeper!" she said encouragingly. I laughed. "I'm so happy, Mom. He gets me." I sighed.

"I just wish Mike wasn't acting like a jerk." "I know, honey. Maybe something's going on at home that's making him act that way, or maybe he doesn't want to share you with Peter. Honestly, it could be anything." Mom always had the best advice. "I hope that's the case. I hate to see ten years of friendship just thrown out the door." I said sadly. "I do, too, Hannah. I know if Mike is supposed to stay in your life, you'll work things out." She hugged me. I hugged her back. "Thanks, Mommy."

That night I had another dream about Peter. We were sitting in a meadow looking up at the sky, and we were holding hands and snuggling. It was a happy feeling. "This is perfect. You're perfect." I said, kissing him on the cheek. "There's no one I'd rather be with than you." He said, kissing me back. Suddenly the sky grew dark, and it started to rain. A black fog surrounded us, and Mike appeared. He was wearing all black, and he looked pale as a ghost, and he looked like a movie villain that stepped off the screen.

"Stay away from her. She's mine." He pulled out a knife and started flying towards us. Peter gently pushed me behind him. "You will not get to her." Blue sparks were flashing out of his hands. A shield was forming around us, protecting us from the approaching danger. "Mike! You are not acting like yourself!" I yelled in fear. His eyes were blazing with rage. "What happened to us, Hannah?! You betrayed me!" Just then, yellow sparks were flying out of his hands, and he was getting ready to strike. I woke up before he could succeed.

What on earth happened?! I thought as I woke up in a cold sweat. I was so scared I was shaking. Was Mike that mad at me? I never thought I would be afraid of my own best friend. What was I going to do?
