Theia Avery is depressed. Like borderline "I'd rather throw myself off the Astrometry Tower than sit here and listen to the same bullshit again" depressed, and it wasn't as if she was taking extreme precautionary measures to hide it or anything.
In actuality, she's said that aloud to countless people and every time she did, they'd either laugh at her supposed "sarcasm" or glumly agree. Because the world of sad, stressed teenagers and dismissive parents had conditioned itself to believe school was the best years of anyone's life. It didn't matter if you were crumpling under the pressure of too much homework, too many exams, too little time to eat and sleep. It didn't matter if you lost faith in the education system and it didn't matter if you'd given up on a happy future. Nope.
So long as you got the grades and they could smile, clap you on the back and say obliviously, "See, it wasn't that bad." Theia dreaded that day. She'd a feeling she'd lose it and punch whoever said it in the face and then have some serious consequences to face for it. It's them same impulsive instincts that lead her to rescuing an unusually alone Remus Lupin from the snake pit of vicious vipers and cunning cobras. Who knew that was all it would take for someone to realise just how doom and gloom Theia's mind really is.
After a dismissal of his gratitude, Theia expects never to speak to the lanky boy again. That is until he starts popping up everywhere trying to worm his way into her everyday life and possibly paying more attention to her "Oh my God! I'm going to kill myself if I have to sit through another one of McGonagall's lectures!" moans than anyone else ever had.
But hey! It's nothing a depresso expresso can't fix, right?
