Marinette is just a princess and she pretends to be a maid. But she also has powers no one knows that she is magical. Adrien doesn't know either and her father locks her up because she was capable of saving the world from the evil force. Her father is the Mastermind who is trying to rule the world and he can't if Marinette stops him. So he had to find a prince for a marinette to marry so she couldn't stop him from taking control of the world. When he saw adrien he knew that he was a prince. She couldn't marry adrien because he also had magic and he also hated their family.
Marinette's father has a lot of secrets; he had killed his own mother and father. He also killed his own wife and lied to marinette saying that she had died giving birth to marinette. But he had to kill her to get a diamond to rule the world. He had to kill someone he loved. He couldn't kill his daughter. So he killed his own wife. He gained power from the diamond and became stronger in every way.
Marinette never knew about that at all so there was always a tradition to marry a prince that your parents picked the prince you will have marriage with. Marinette believes that you should fall in love with a person. It was always a bother for her she knew that being married to the person you didn't love in the first place was new and scary. She ran away to get away from marrying Prince Luka. Before she decided to run away she also wanted to talk her father about the marriage. After walking up to her door hearing that he father wanted to take over the world but he wasn't strong enough without marinette's power and he would even kill her for them. So then she finally decided to run away and from this day on she knew that she would have to hide away from him for the rest of her life till it was time to take him down for go.
