Adults always say your first love is powerful and sticks with you forever. They don't explain why this is. Others say you'll forget about your first love after 10 years. Some might disagree others would agree. Personally, I haven't decided who I believe yet. I just haven't met someone who I can say was my "first love" yet or maybe I have, I just don't know it. Only time will tell.

The summer before my junior year was wildly normal. Until it wasn't. I never would have seen coming how it would shape the following years, in all the best and worst ways. It started off pretty normally, I was working part-time at our town's local beach snack hut on days when I didn't have football practice to make some extra money for college. I'd spend my nights going out with my boys to parties or just hanging around. Until the end of the summer. That's when everything changed.

One night after I closed up the hut for the night, I headed over to a party in the woods between my town and the next. I didn't know many people going to it but for once it was for the best, I just didn't know it at the time. I got into my pick up and headed over.  When I got there I grabbed a drink from the keg and circulated myself.

After a while of having many basic, boring conversations, I decided to leave. As I was on my way out when I bumped into a girl. I took one look at her and was mesmerized. She was beautiful.

"Sorry, should have been watching where I was going," I said sheepishly. She looked at me and smiled.

"It's okay, don't sweat it." Her voice was smooth and calm, she was just about to keep walking past me when I said,

"I'm Noah. And your name is?"

"Cole."

"You have an interesting name,"

"I don't know if I should take that a compliment or an insult," she said questioningly. I knew i was blowing my chance,  fuck.

"Take it is as a compliment, I would have thought your name was something basic like Emma or something," I said glancing at my watch.

"So I look basic?" she said coyly. Fuck, fuck, fuckkkkkkkk.

"No, no that's not what I'm sayi-"

She began to laugh, "I'm just playing around, relax a little," she said with a smile.

Wow, her smile was just wow.

"I was just gonna go venture into the woods wanna come with me?"

Cole paused to think, she looked back at her friends, "Sure, this party is kind of dead anyway. Just give me one sec."

As she walked to her friends I analyzed her. She was much smaller than me, height-wise, but had very long legs. She had waist-length strawberry blonde hair, big green eyes, and freckles all over her face. And her smile, god her smile was just perfect.

Cole was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. As she walked back towards me I could feel my stomach tighten. I had never felt this before. I smiled at her as she reached me.

"Ready to go on an adventure?"

"And adventure? Always." She said smiling, I took her hand and started walking towards the woods.
