Eyes sparkling, and with a graceful smile in her red painted lips, Jennie Kim clapped alongside all the people in the magnificent theatre that was the Municipal Theatre of Seoul, watching as everyone contemplated in awe how her brother, at the left side of the stage, walked towards the microphone.
It was the great announcement of the night. Junmyeon Kim, CEO of the biggest investment company, YGSM, was supposedly going to announce a new development.
Or so she thought; her brother hadn't really told her anything, and the only one apart from him that knew what was going on was their dad.
Sipping carefully the champagne on her glass, Jennie thought that the transparent cup seemed almost golden with all the lights it reflected. Indeed, the colossal theatre was full of golden decorations and a warm light, making everything seem richer than it already was. But the intense gold of the theatre did not affect her view of the main spectacle, as she was sitting down on the central balcony of the theatre.
She couldn't help but to be proud. This was the company that her father had started from scratch and that had grown so big every business in Korea wanted to be associated with it, a desire that grew even more with the changes Junmyeon made to the company.
She just smiled while drinking, letting the sweet odor of the beverage enter her nostrils and the unique taste of the drink invade her tongue and her senses.
—You realize that literally everyone has been staring at you all night, right?
Jennie turned her head and saw her best friend, Jisoo, eyeing her with a naughty-like smile.
But the doe-eyed beauty wasn't wrong; far from it, actually. Everybody in the room wondered how the glossy, black dress that Jennie wore would feel, if her slightly curled hair would feel as silky as her dress, and how much the diamond dangling between the valley of her breasts had cost.
—I'm not the only one, though. Both my brother and Jinyoung Park have been watching you the whole time, — Jennie said with a sultry smirk.
Because if Jennie was hot and breathtaking, Jisoo was radiant and sophisticated. The two of them were like fire and water: opposites, but at the same time equally enticing.
It didn't help that Jisoo was wearing pearls along with a Gucci dress, though.
—Shut up, Mandu.
Jennie smirked evilly, and stopped pestering her best friend. Instead, she directed her view to the front.
—...and yet, after all this time, I still cannot believe how much support our company is getting, — Junmyeon claimed.
He was about to continue with his speech when one of the guards rushed in, and approached him, forcing Junmyeon to stop mid-phrase. The guard seemed clearly distressed, and when Junmyeon tried reaching out to him, the guard yelled in such manner that everyone heard it, even Jennie, who was several meters away.
—Mr Kim, if you value your life, don't move!
The murmuring began almost instantly. Jisoo turned her head at Jennie's direction, squinting her eyes in a questioning matter.
But Jennie didn't have answers either.
Soon, the murmuring transformed to chaos, as many guards were invading the theatre and leading guest outside, to safety.
Jennie couldn't believe how everything had changed so quickly. And it extremely disturbed her.
His brother always had everything under control.
Instead of her brother talking in a charming manner and smiling, like he had planned, he had a frown on his face and was currently talking to one of the members of the administration, still on the stage.
At that moment, Junmyeon's eyes widened unnaturally and started searching the crowd. When the two siblings connected eyes, he mouthed something that left her frightened.
"Leave now."
Still watching her brother's pleading eyes, Jennie was suddenly grabbed by the arm and pulled out of the theatre, despite her screaming and crying.
After then, it was a complete blur. Jennie had tried kicking, punching and even biting the person that was carrying her out of the theatre, but to no use.
Jennie regained some of her composure when she was already out of the theatre, and she started frantically searching for her father.
—Jennie, please calm down... — her father had found her first.
Jennie turned around, rage burning in her cat-like eyes.
—Dad, could you please tell me what the fuck is going on?
Her father inhaled in such a manner that it seemed like he had aged ten years in a minute.
—They've got us.
—What?
—They've got us.
But before she could seek further explanation, the theatre erupted in a ball of flames, while Jennie let a strangled scream.
