-Ashton's POV-
I woke up to Luke shaking me while screaming, "Ashton, get up! It's your birthday!"
"Go away," I mumbled, pushing him off me. He shook me once more. By then, I was over it. "Fine, I'm up!" I shouted, half-asleep. I attempted to sit up, but I just fell back down. What the hell? I attempted three more times, until I finally realized that Luke was laying on top of me.
"Get off me, you fatty." I joked, pushing him off of me. Luke didn't seem to happy about my meaningless comment. His head dropped, and suddenly he was sad. "What's wrong?" I questioned, speaking in a hushed tone. I lifted his head up, and in that moment, I seen Luke cry.
"You just don't get it. Do you?" He spoke through tears. It was a rhetorical question and I knew that. "You just lay around here and you seem so perfectly fine. Like everything is fine. Newsflash: nothing is fine. The world isn't fine." He lowered his voice, trailing off. "I'm not fine.."
"Shit Luke, I'm awful at cheering people up. I wish I knew what to say, really. Is there anything I can do to help?" I said the last part like everything was just fine.
"Just go home, Ashton." Luke's voice grew softer. I stood up and walked toward the door. I was to go home.
Truth be told: I didn't have a home. (Flashback, kinda?)
My dad died when I was younger, and my mom was such a druggie that CPS took me right away. I was placed in a foster home soon after. Nobody wanted me. When I turned 18, the foster home left me alone. They dropped me off in the middle of the night. I had no place to go. No person to go to. So, I went to the bar, and that's when I met Luke. He offered me to stay at his house, and that's how we ended up here.
(End of flashback)
I began walking in a random direction. I had nowhere to go. Jesus christ. I quickly ran to my bestfriends house. Well, my ex-bestfriend. She lived a couple of streets down, and we haven't really talked in years. I knocked on her door. A tall, blonde figure stood in the doorway with a welcoming smile. "Hi, Ashton."
"Hey, Savannah. You remember me? Thank god.. Do you think I could stay with you a couple of days? Things got pretty heated at my so-called 'boyfriends' house." You could hear the sadness in my voice.
"Sure, Ashton. Anything for a fellow friend." She opened up the door, wide enough for my to come in. I walked through the door and followed her. "You can sleep here for tonight, then I'll find somewhere else you can sleep." She pointed to the couch. Her house was huge, with beautiful words of encouragement surrounding the walls. Now I remember why I loved Savannah's house so much. It was just so welcoming and comfortable. It was the one true place I could call home.
We watched movies together until we both fell asleep on the couch.
