I loved boys, boys who loved bugs and played the guitar. Hyke, the boy next door was this one specific person and he would always catch ladybugs and caterpillars, then he would proceed to gently study them and write about their wings and goo like an entomologist and right after he would set them free. This one time he placed an earthworm in the palm of my hand, it was wet and yucky but for him I was fascinated and he told me - in his scientist voice - that an earthworm is in fact both male and female and that they produced both eggs and sperm.

Hykes' jet black hair was cut like a bowl and he preferred shorts over skirts and t-shirts over dresses. I wore whatever my mother chose but not Hyke, he was specific. Hyke's parents were from India, his mother Mrs. Dey was a businesss woman she owned several florists and his father, Dr. Dey was an orthopedic surgeon. They called Hyke, Hana but Hyke told me his real name was what he preferred and I believed him - because Hyke was specific. He was cute and ten, I liked him a lot but all he focused on was his bugs and his fathers' guitar.
