The rest of the trip past in a blur. After a way a stay in a hotel and another long car ride, I finally arrived at the place that I would be living for the next four years. South Carolina University. For me, it looked like it was straight out of a dream. The large brick walls and vines creeping up past the stained glass windows made me smile lightly. Perfect.

Turning around, I glanced at my mother still on her phone. No matter how different our personalities, I had to admit we looked very alike, however I could only see myself as a downgraded version. While she had beautiful straight brown hair that was never out of place, my curly mane was only ever subdued by a headband, something I wore as little as possible. Her pure skin was pristine and pale while mine was olive and covered with freckles.

However my small nose and hazel eyes were the one thing that I had been able to take from my father before he left us forever. His disappearance was the very thing that caused my mothers only apparent flaw, the wrinkles marring her perfect skin.

I couldn't help but feel bad for her. Maybe if she had had the perfect life she dreamed, she wouldn't have felt the need to completely control mine.

"I'm just going to head in now... any chance you would mind helping me unpack?" I asked, although I already knew her answer.

With her eyes still glued to her phone she glanced at the time before responding, "I'm still a bit short on time, I have a meeting early tomorrow morning."

Knew it. Awkwardly I gave her one last look. "So um... goodbye?"

Although it sounded like more of a question that a statement, she gave a swift nod before finally putting down her phone and glancing at me quickly. "Just remember to keep your grades up, and for your own sake keep with the salads and routine with the gym, you don't want to fall apart before your first year ends."

More inspiring words had never been spoken. What a typical goodbye. Giving her a curt nod I swiftly turned around, and without giving her even a lady hug, I walked into the building that would hold my future.

Skimming my eyes over the dorm numbers, I finally saw the one I was looking for. 307.

Quickly unlocking the door and stepping in, I realized that I didn't have as much space to work with as I had previously thought.

Against my mothers wishes (what a surprise), I had come to Carolina planning on majoring in interior design. It had always been a passion of mind and even though there was a chance I'd switch my major, I was pretty sure I could stick with it.

Only an hour later, I finished decorating my half of the room. My twin bed was fitted with a rusty colored comforter, and plants and candles were scattered throughout my space.

Everything seemed to be coming together surprisingly well, but knowing my luck, I'd probably have some sort of disastrous event derail my life soon.

Glancing at the bare side of the room, I couldn't help but wonder who I'd be spending my time with. As long as she wasn't a mess or a night owl I had no problem. Hopefully I'd stay out of her way and she'd stay out of mine.

Sadly, quite the opposite ended up happening.
