- Chapter 1 -

It was happening... I was seconds away from meeting my favourite band on the planet; 5 seconds of s-

"Alexandra! Rise and shine! We're going to be late!" A blatant call from my mother was heard from downstairs, awakening me from my half-finished dream.

I pulled my bed covers tighter over my face and let out a long groan. I thought I could get away with just falling back to sleep, but to my misfortune, another shout was heard. "Alex! Did you hear me?!" After taking a deep breath and removing the sheets from my head, I slowly sat up and replied through my sleepy voice "Yeah mum, I'm up, I'm up".

I finally decided to drag myself out of bed, rubbing my face in attempt to 'rise and shine' as my mum called it. I trudged over to my window and regretfully pulled up the blinds, seeing that, yet again, it was raining. I'm sure that England is the only place that can rain this much in June!

I grabbed my phone from my nightstand to check the time. 8:02 am. Why am I up this early?! Oh yes, of course, it's my great grandfathers birthday today so me and mum have to drive all the way from London to Cornwall to attend his party. I personally did not like the idea of going but mum insisted since 'the whole family will be there'. Sure, I'm looking forward to seeing my cousins and everything but come on, the man turned 98 today, how much partying is he really going to be doing? I'm sure the most exciting thing that'll happen is grandpa will loose his teeth in an endeavour to chew some cake.

Maybe I'm being too negative about this whole thing. I am excited to see my family so, you never know, perhaps I'll enjoy it. With that thought, it's time to get ready or my mum might murder me. No, I'm serious.

I took a pair of blue, ripped skinny jeans and a light grey t-shirt in to my grasp and walked towards the only bathroom in our 'cosy' home. I took a quick shower but didn't wash my hair since we were in a rush and it would take me longer to dry my hair than it would to drive to Cornwall! I brushed my teeth and then slipped on the clothes I had chosen.

I walked past the stairs and heard my mum muttering to my brother about how I always make her late because I'm so unorganised. Well sorry, but she gave birth to this chaotic mess.

I hurried back to my bedroom and rapidly straightened my long blonde hair before applying some make up; concealer, a small amount of eyeliner, lots of mascara and some eyebrow touch up. Surprisingly, that only took me 15 minutes and I was almost ready.

I promptly put on a white, zip up hoodie and threw a tan leather jacket on top; before I knew it I was grabbing my over night bag and running downstairs. I was greeted by my unimpressed mother holding out my pair of black and white converse telling me to put them on, which is exactly what I did. My mum looked angry enough at me for making us late, I did not need to be adding to that.

My 19 year old brother, Andrew, came through the kitchen door so he could wish us a safe journey before we left. "Bye, freak, don't die or anything." He advised while addressing me. "Well thanks, loser, means a lot" I announced sarcastically while rolling my eyes. "Why do I have to go and he doesn't, again?" I added. My mum just looked at me impatiently, "we've been over this, Alex, he has a gig-" "to play at tonight, yeah yeah I know, I'm sorry." I said while while slightly smiling at my mother.

Before I knew it we were out of the door, in to the car and on our way to what could only be described as a family reunion. I can't complain though, Cornwall is such a beautiful place with incredible beaches.

Momentarily, I stared in to the car mirror, taking in everything about myself. There were things I didn't like, such as the acne which no matter what, would keep appearing. The way there always seemed to be faded bags under my eyes no matter how much sleep I'd had. The small, barely even noticeable, gap in between my two front teeth no matter how long I had worn braces for when I was 13. But there were also things I did like, not many, but some. I liked the small silver stud on the side of my nose which I got when I was 15. I liked the emerald green shade of my eyes, although, I would much prefer the bright blue eyes I'd always dreamed of, but green will have to do. Also, I had grown to like the two small dimples on my cheeks which appear when I smile.
