Chapter 02 - ' Not All Marks Bruise '

Beginning a new school term was always heart stopping. Grey eyes darted around as more students lined up at the collection point. One face he had yet to see was not among the growing group.

"Paul!" A voice cried out. It's Grey!

Hauling a large book bag, the boy almost stumbled into the street. He caught himself in the nick of time and earned the angry shout of a driver passing by. Paul rushed forward in concern. This was nothing unusual for the clumsy boy, but his heart still fluttered at the thought of losing him.

"I'm ok!" said Kim, as he approached his friend. Of course you are, can't kill a cockroach can you?

A smile brightened Paul's features. The pressure felt eased and his shoulders relaxed.

"Kim! You should be more careful!" said Paul. Why should he?

The two friends embraced each other. The winter break was long and he missed his best friend. The little moments of sanity are what he enjoyed in Kim's company.

"How was your winter break?" said Kim. Everything was bland, except his mouth.

"It was pretty great actually," said Paul.

Kim dabbed the sweat on his brow. Paul noticed his friend's chubby figure had gotten wider over the short break. 'I really need to talk to Trent about this.' Paul thought to himself.

Not wishing to spoil the mood he began retelling the most interesting parts of his vacation. This was done without once mentioning his friend that lived in the dark.

Kim noticed the lack of a certain name being called, but didn't pursue it. The school transport pulled up to the curb and they entered the bus.

The beautiful city of Brethe, did not fail to capture Paul's breath. It was so advanced for this era and he loved it. Two pairs of feet tapped impatiently upon arrival to the school's gates. They echoed in Paul's ears. The silence between them bothered Kim and Paul's agitated state did not go unnoticed.

Leaning across the seat, Kim said, "I think if you stomp hard enough, he might arrive sooner!" Oh goodie! Let's start again!

     "What!" said Paul.

Cheeks stained red puffed themselves out. Kim laughed heartily at his friend's reaction. A wide eyed Paul stared at the person sitting next to him. Who is this person? This is all Trent's fault!

His innocent friend was taking up the speech of his recent flame. Kim's eyes softened and remorse took residence in them. In his native tongue, he mumbled apologies. Such a saint, own up to your words for once!

Paul disliked seeing his friend apologizing, so he quickly reassured him. A cute smile replaced the sorrow filled expression on Kim's face. He bounced in his seat. Paul couldn't help but wonder if it was the sweet jam this time or maybe someone else? His hyperactive, asian friend really knew how to take things above and beyond.

"Hey, who's that?" Where? Kim pointed through the window he sat next to. Paul almost flew out his seat to see who it was. Realizing he was tricked he punched the now laughing marshmello.

"Not funny!" said Paul, his mind emptied. He didn't like the dirty move Kim had used, but the trick had done its job. He felt less anxious about seeing Luca and he had gone away.

Coughing lightly into his jacket arm, Paul got up from his seat to exit the stationary bus. Once again he was thankful for Kim. He always knew how to get him out of a tough spot.

     "Paul?" said Kim. Yes?

Paul turned to the boy behind him. Kim looked worried and that made him feel upset. He was doing it again. The fact he couldn't remember, ate away at him. The pain in his head grew in proportion to the sorrow that grew in his heart. He mumbled some words to Kim, before speeding off.

Kim looked at the back of his best friend as he rushed into the school doors. Walking in a solemn state to his class. Luca wanted to help Paul, but he knew there was nothing more he could do. This was a battle he needed to overcome and hopefully soon. Class started in five minutes.

Author's Note:

Sorry for no updates for a long while.

I had a clue about what I wanted to write, but I only had Luca's voice down pack.

Writing this chapter allowed me to explore Paul/Grey's voice and I'm happy with how it turned out.

Anywho!
