A Past To Remember

                   THE PAST

       I walked back inside to scare him and saw what he was looking at, a picture of a small baby.

"Who's that?" I asked confused, "that's my daughter"

He has a daughter! who married this man, and how can he have a daughter if he is this fucked up right now?

"Whats her name?"

"Amelia, shes six months old this year"

"That's nice, who's her mom?"

"Her name is Maria Von"

Maria Von, a drug dealer from Nevada, she loves to piss off my boss, and fuck him. No one in the office likes her, I heard she had a daughter but, who would've guessed it was with Dante, sadly last week she crossed the line with the boss, now he want her head on a plaque, and yes he hangs peoples heads on his wall to show dominance.

"What does your wife do for a living?"

"Oh shes not my wife we divorced a couple of years ago, we just live together, I guess not all of are feelings for each other were totally gone, but yeah"

"Can I come to your house to meet Amelia one day?"

"How about now, its still dawn my house isn't that far"

"That would be lovely"

This way I will know where she is hiding out at, after I get this kill I'm going to resign, I mean I've been doing this job since I was seventeen, yes the boss took me in, but I need a break, I'm tired of all this, I'll buy a beach house, then I can spend the rest of my days looking  at the beach.

"Shall we go now, my house isn't that far, but I don't want Amelia to be up to late"

"Ah yes lets go then"

I paid the bill and we both headed to the car, we drove twenty minutes and arrived at his house, I immediately smelled Maria, my main skill is smell, after being given a smell I never forget it, and can always track the person.

Dante took off his shoes and walked in front of me, "I'll go get Amelia"

When I stopped hearing his foot steps I looked around the house, it was quite big, not a mansion, but not a small house either. I walked forward and the door opened behind me.

"Dante I'm ho-"

It was maria, I covered her mouth and dragged her to the first bathroom I saw.

"So this is where you were the whole time, after your last act out Angie hasn't been so amused"

"Oh its Angie's little kitten, how cute"

She put her spider like fingers on my face and I immediately grabbed her arm twisting it backward.

"Do not touch me"

"Oh it seems a kitty grew claws, before you would let anyone run over you as long as you got a kill"

"Everyone grows up, and after you left i became Angie's favorite assassin"

"Why are you telling me this"

"Because I was assigned to kill the bitch who ran away, you know no one runs from the boss, are you stupid"

"I got married, I have a life now, I live with my best friend and our child"

"Don't you understand, we don't get to have lives, we made this choice, we don't get to ever leave, this is our life"

Maria shook my hand off and sat in the bath side, "but what if i want more, I joined before you at eight years old, I never got to live, I was a street rat who had no home, no family"

"The boss picked you up?"

"Not Angie, the old boss, he took me in as Angie's sister, once he passed away Angie took over, I got my branch taken away, before the old boss died though he told me to live, I wont let him down, Angie was a stepping stone to me getting freedom"

"So what are we gonna do now, Angie has people everywhere some followed me here, I can't just let you live"

"Then let me die"

"What?"

"I know you cant go back unless I'm dead, and I'm older than you and Dante, I saw you come back from that tragedy at your high school, you looked dead, I'll give you life, please look after Amelia, even if you cant look after Dante, promise me that you wont let Amelia get hurt"

"Are you sure there's no going back"

"I'm sure, take me out back so Dante wont hear"

I walked with her out the back door as quietly as possible, she stood underneath a tree she said was their favorite picnic spot, I took out my dagger.

"I promise"

She quickly smiled, I cut her neck open with one cut, and she was gone, Dante called me saying Amelia was awake and saw, he fell to the ground.

"Who are you, get out"

"Maria told me to watch over you guys, she had to die"

"Why!"

"Because she wished for the impossible"

"What did she do"

"I'll tell you inside after I take care of this, go inside"

"No"

"INSIDE"

Dante walked inside and I signaled to one of Angie's men following, I told him to clean this up and went back inside.

Dante stood from the table when he saw me.

"Sit down"

"What did maria do, she was innocent"

"Your wife is not who you think she is"

I explained everything I knew about maria to him, he looked confused

"Why would she tell you to watch over us, because you guys made a kid, Angie is going to want Amelia to take place of maria and serve the rest of her years, also Angie loved maria's body once knowing someone else touched it, he wont be happy to say the least."

"But why you"

"I'm out of the job as of now, I was also Angie's best assassin, in close combat and from distances, I promise I can protect you both"

I don't want you to protect us, we'll be fine on our own"

I looked at him in disbelief, "yes and when you have people trying to suffocate you in your sleep I'm sure you'll be fine"

"In my sleep, are you going to live here?"

"Its the only way I can successfully watch and protect you guys, if not I will have no idea when someone tries to hurt you, don't worry I can sleep on the couch, I'll be able to smell intruders so I wont have to sleep with you"

"What are you some dog hybrid"

"No I just have many skills, I was a natural born assassin, who knew"

"Fine if maria asked for this what more can I do, just keep a distance"

"I'm sure well become nice friends".
